Meet Chuck Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Moore.

Chuck, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m from Los Angeles, Pasadena is home for me. I’m very proud to be from there. I still haunt Vroman’s Bookstore on Colorado Blvd. You’ll find me meandering there for hours. I tend to always leave with a book. I like that I’m able to go back and revisit, connect, whether that’s a bookshop, a view or a walk. I find comfort with the things I’m tethered to.

Music has always been around in my life. It was in the car when I was heading to school, at the house while my mom would make dinner or when my dad would regale to us kids about when he saw Queen during the A Night At The Opera Tour at Kiel Auditorium in 1976. These everyday happenings are my foundation.

The first record that I called my own was Tom Petty’s Full Moon Fever. I found it over at the Tower Records on Lake Ave back when that was still around. I was about six or seven at the time. There was this undercurrent within, even before I picked up the guitar or wrote a song. Music has always held me in the present.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’ve been playing and writing music since I was a kid. I picked up the guitar at eleven and started songwriting soon after. I call myself a songwriter first and foremost even though guitar came first. Songwriting and writing, in general, have been the healer, the challenger, and the teacher at various times in my life. Songwriting helps me pull back and see things from a different perspective. The singles from Cartalk that are out now (Noonday Devil and Wrestling) gave me clarity and direction. I hope people take away from it whatever they need to, whatever they are searching for or at least allow a moment to pause.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I feel like there is never just one thing. That it’s a combination of everything, big and small, in the corners and cracks, in my mind and out of my mind. What’s the challenge in front of me and how can I take the small steps to grow from it?

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Come to a show! We are always playing shows around town, sharing bills with our friends.
