Story & Lesson Highlights with Siobhán O’Loughlin of Hollywood

We recently had the chance to connect with Siobhán O’Loughlin and have shared our conversation below.

Siobhán , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Sure, and I think we all should and could be doing it right now.

It costs me my time and sleep to do ICE Watch at Home Depot once a week at 8am. I work with some incredible people, standing at attention early in the morning keeping watch for ICE raids against our communities and neighbors. It’s scary, but important work, and I’m proud to recently be taking part in it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I make immersive experiences for intimate audiences. My work is geared towards all empathic people, or people looking to connect deeply with the folks who attend my events. I host creative retreats, workshops, and activist trainings, and above all, I love performing. I’ve created multiple interactive solo performances — and what I’m best known for is Broken Bone Bathtub, an immersive play that takes place in your home for an audience of however many people can fit in the bathtub. I’ve screened my feature length documentary about this project all over the United States, and the UK! And I’ll be taking this project to Denver next year.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I am shy. Because I WAS shy. I really was.
I’m just…the absolute opposite now.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The creative community you’ve always longed for is coming. It isn’t going to be in some busted New York apartment like you’d always dreamed it would be — it’s going to be something entirely different — and you’re the one who has made it happen, again and again.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
It really is. I’m actually that extroverted, that excited to be there, that much of a post-show-chatterer, and I’m sorry and thank you for being there for me and with me while I cry a whole lot.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Living long distance from my fiancé. He’s in New York, and I’m in LA, and I miss him every moment that we’re apart. We’re like, THAT kind of couple, and we have years of couples therapy and hard labor put in to thank for it. I am beyond grateful to be with him.
