Story & Lesson Highlights with Shemeka Wright of Brea

Shemeka Wright shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Shemeka, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of building the foundation nobody applauds, the discipline, the resilience, and the infrastructure that keeps me moving forward when no one’s watching. The public sees the Lifetime credits, the festival premieres, or the Wright Positive Films headlines. What they don’t see are the 5 a.m. mornings drilling scripts, the late nights editing my own projects before I had a team, or the countless hours spent believing in myself long before anyone else did.
I’ve built a career brick by brick, not just as an actress but as a creator and a CEO. Wright Positive Films was designed as a home for the kind of stories I want to tell, while The AEI Method equips other actors to take control of their craft with intention. The unseen parts…the systems, the strategy, the consistency is what makes all of it possible. That’s the real legacy: building something strong enough to last well beyond the spotlight.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Shemeka Wright turns scripts into humans and shows actors how to do the same. As someone who is an actress, filmmaker, and founder of Wright Positive Films with more than 20 years in the industry, I have steadily carved a reputation for performances marked by depth and authenticity, alongside a growing slate of projects under my production banner. I’ve led in Lifetime’s Secrets in the Building, premiered June’s Crown at the American Black Film Festival, and written, directed, and produced More Than One. Most recently, I’ve launched my proof-of-concept feature Unshaken: The Knock, now in development as a vertical series.
I’m refusing to wait for permission. Wright Positive Films exists to produce emotionally rich, female-driven stories, while The AEI Method empowers actors to stop auditioning aimlessly and start booking with confidence. With my company scaling and my on-screen momentum accelerating, I’ve positioned myself not just as talent, but as a creative force shaping what comes next.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the labels, I was a fearless little girl turning living rooms into stages, telling stories with my whole body, and dreaming bigger than anyone thought reasonable. Life, as it does, tried to teach me to shrink. But that bold, unapologetic girl never disappeared she’s who fuels everything I do today. Every set I step on, every script I write, every actor I coach is about honoring her and reclaiming the power of showing up fully seen.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, and every time I hit that wall, it became fuel. This industry tests you: auditions dry up, phones stay silent, and the grind can feel invisible. At the same time, I was raising a son while building Wright Positive Films. There were moments I questioned the cost. But here’s what changed everything: instead of waiting, I created. Wright Positive Films was born out of necessity. Unshaken: The Knock exists because I refused to wait for someone else’s greenlight. The AEI Method was built not only to ground my own performances, but to hand other actors a framework to stand out when the industry says no. The most powerful choice I made was to stop waiting for permission. From that moment, the trajectory shifted and I haven’t looked back.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie is that actors are powerless until someone else says “yes.” The truth? The most enduring careers are built by artists who stopped waiting and claimed ownership of their work. That’s why I launched Wright Positive Films to put stories I care about into the world without asking for approval.
Another lie is that followers define talent. Some industry folks will tell you: those numbers might open a door, but truth is what books roles and sustains careers. Audiences don’t connect to algorithms; they connect to humanity. The future belongs to artists who master both sides: excellence in their craft and intentional ownership of their business. That’s where legacy is built.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I turned dreams into blueprints and then passed those blueprints to others. That I told stories that made people feel seen. That I built a company proving ownership is as vital as talent. I hope they say I wasn’t afraid of risk, that when the industry told me to wait, I built my own table. That my work reflected the strength and complexity of women. But more than titles or credits, I hope people remember how I made them feel, inspired, capable, and seen.
Because for me, legacy isn’t about fame. It’s about change.
