Robin Randolph shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Robin, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think what’s most misunderstood about photography today is the level of professionalism, investment, and integrity it truly takes to do this work well. With technology and AI advancing so quickly, people sometimes underestimate what goes into creating timeless, meaningful images. It’s easy to think a friend with a nice camera or an app can get the job done — but professional photography is so much more than pressing a button.
Over the years, I’ve invested not just in high-end equipment, but in my education, my skills, and in building lasting relationships with clients who trust me to capture some of the most important moments of their lives. Maintaining that trust — while continuing to grow and expand my client base — is something I take great pride in.
At the heart of it all is integrity. In this business, your reputation is everything. When all is said and done, what you have left is your name, your word, and the photos and memories that outlive us all. That’s why I approach every shoot with the same care and respect — because those moments can’t be redone, and they deserve to be preserved with honesty and heart.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Robin Randolph, a professional photographer, content creator and visual storyteller. I own and run RR Photography, where I specialize in documenting authentic, candid moments that most photographers don’t see or think to capture.
What sets me apart is my eye for the most visually compelling moments —it’s almost instinctual, like I can anticipate the perfect shot before it happens. I approach every session with a combination of technical expertise, creativity, and emotional awareness, ensuring that each image tells a genuine story. I pride myself on being professional, versatile, and deeply connected to my clients, able to put anyone at ease and capture their truest selves.
I’m always working on pushing the boundaries of my craft, whether that’s through new techniques, exploring unique locations, or finding fresh ways to tell stories visually. At the heart of my business is a passion for creating images that aren’t just seen — they’re felt.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that really shaped how I see the world was during the time I spent living in Japan before the pandemic, combined with my travels throughout Asia. Living in Japan taught me the value of mindfulness and patience — observing the quiet rhythms of daily life, the thoughtfulness in small gestures, and the way communities move in harmony with one another. But traveling beyond Japan added a whole new layer of perspective. I got my scuba diving certification in Thailand, exploring underwater worlds that reminded me how vast and mysterious life can be, and I had the rare opportunity to visit Myanmar (Burma), witnessing resilience and culture in a place so different from my own.
Experiences like these taught me that the world is filled with moments of beauty, complexity, and connection that you can only truly understand by immersing yourself in them. They shaped how I approach life, people, and my photography — always looking to capture the small, meaningful, often overlooked moments that reveal the heart of a story.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to be patient and trust the journey. Every setback, every missed opportunity, and every moment of uncertainty is shaping the person you’re meant to become. Don’t rush, don’t compare yourself to others, and don’t be afraid to take risks — whether that’s traveling to a new country, pursuing a dream, or putting yourself out there in life. Everything you experience, even the hard parts, will become the foundation for your growth, your perspective, and the life you’re building.
I would tell my younger self to be kinder and gentler with yourself, and not to stress when things don’t go as planned. Life rarely unfolds the way we imagine, but that doesn’t mean you’re failing — it just means the journey is teaching you something important. Whether it’s travel adventures, business opportunities, or personal goals, trust yourself, embrace the unexpected, and remember that being patient and compassionate with yourself is just as valuable as any achievement.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real deal. Whether it’s being in the spotlight on ABC 7, sharing my work, or connecting with people through Instagram Lives and in-person events, I am authentically myself and feel 100% comfortable in my own skin. Behind the camera, I’m the same: engaging, curious, and intentional, capturing moments while connecting with people on a visceral level. That authenticity is something people often tell me they love about me. Stay tuned for my podcast, “REAL TALK WITH ROBIN RANDOLPH.”
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing 100% what I was born to do. From my early work at ESPN and Turner Broadcasting to my current partnerships with Disney and ABC 7, I’ve always sought out opportunities that aligned with my passions — and along the way, those companies saw my vision and welcomed me into their families. Photography and storytelling have always felt instinctive, a way to connect and capture life in it’s purest form. My parents never told me what to do; they simply believed in me, encouraged me to chase my dreams, and gave me the wings to fly. Every step of this journey has reaffirmed that following my own path was exactly what I was meant to do.
