Story & Lesson Highlights with Eric D

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eric D. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Eric , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I accomplish about 50% of my work day within the first 90 minutes. Wake up, feed the cats, make a coffee, and go to war with the internet. It’s probably very unhealthy, but it works for me for now.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Eric D and I own the alternative clothing brand MethSyndicate based out of Los Angeles. We have had the brand for almost 14 years now and were one of the first brands to start via instagram. Speaking of! We lost our instagram page last year because of the algorithm, it thought we were selling drugs, so we had to switch our handle to MicrowaveXSalad, but the real ones know it will never change. A lot has happened since our last interview, most notably I got married to my long time partner Rebecca who has been helping me with the day to day operations. She has actually been working on a travel vlog on YouTube which showcases a lot of our crazy adventures, like us being on Below Deck. It’s called Rebecca vs The World, go subscribe! We started a podcast, Stay in School, which is streaming on all platforms. We still sponsor a monthly show at the comedy store called Shimmy Shimmy Ya, which is my friend Josh Adam Meyers creation. I’ve been collaborating with a lot of artists, comedians, and bands, last year we finally released a couple products with our friends The Viagra Boys. Also, we started a record label last year and I’m putting out an album with a band from San Francisco called The Throw Ups. All Thrown Up is currently streaming everywhere and the vinyl will be out in March. We’ve been keeping really busy!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The first time I ever played a real show was with my band “stabbed in the face”. I was in high school and I remember not being able to sleep that night because I was so fired up, just feeling on top of the world. I’ve been chasing (and catching) that dragon ever since

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are better than you realize and your value is never based off of someones else’s treatment or judgement of you. You got this

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That followers equal worth or talent. That you have to look and act a certain way to be successful. It’s 2026, we are all independently able to create art and share it with the world. There are no more rules. The only restrictions are what you put on yourself.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think some people don’t fully realize how much I am making fun of consumerism and trends. A lot of times people will comment how stupid something I create is not realizing that’s what I wanted the whole time. People take things too seriously, we’re just having fun here, trying to survive. *cracks a beer*
