Story & Lesson Highlights with Aaron Krebs of Burbank

Aaron Krebs shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I’m a father and own multiple businesses. The first 90 minutes of my day are getting my daughter ready for school and out the door. Then I take time to focus on fitness. After that? I go down an email hole and then run errands for the Inkwell Tavern or focus on other businesses.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Aaron Krebs. Co-owner of M.i. Productions, The Westside Comedy Theater, JG&AK Properties, and the Inkwell Tavern in Burbank. Inkwell Tavern is my latest co-creation and we are really excited about moving into the food & beverage space. For decades I worked for someone else in a restaurant while acting. Inkwell Tavern has become a spot where I can create a vibrant environment that is a collection of all my favorite influences. Additionally, the space has become a community building hub. We host many various events from Nerdology Tuesday Trivia and Monday Karaoke to Whiskey Wednesday. We have are listed at #11 on Yelp Elite’s Top 100 Places to Eat in LA County. This is a true honor since it is voted on by the public. We wanted to create a clean, fun, safe space for people to enjoy themselves and I believe we have done that.

We specialize in elevated American Food concepts and cocktails.

We are also currently expanding and opening a 2nd private room off our main room.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I have always been an entrepreneur. At the age of 5 I would put a stand on the corner and sell bags of pecans I collected from my grandparents yard. At 7 I picked green beans from dad’s garden and put them in the red wagon and went door-to-door. I sold corn, potted weeds/flowers, plums….and when I realized I wasn’t “cute enough” for people to stop and pitty buy from me…I paid my little sister to work the table. I’ve bought and sold collections of sports cards, comic books, coins, etc. The pattern and the system have always been the same, but the widget has changed. I’ve always loved the hustle.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I wish I would have taken more time to remember that day. Time is so valuable. I wish I didn’t have days that I don’t remember enjoying a moment.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. 100% I am always me. I may be versions of me on that day. IE-Exuberant, annoyed, exuberantly annoyed, or annoying exuberance. I mean, who else would I be. I am often someone who is in their head and I try to make sure that doesn’t come across as aloof.

I also think one of the great things about Inkwell Tavern is that we have made it a place where everyone is their self. There is an authenticity to it. Genuine. Honest.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When have you had to bet the company?
Right now! lol. We are doing an expansion of a 2nd room for Inkwell Tavern. It’s going to great and allow us so much more seating for parties and events, but it is built out of necessity. This is the gamble now. We need this room to help us. We want to grow the great concept that we have built.
