Cesar and I both grew up in South Gate; went to the same schools together growing up, graduated from South Gate High School in 1990 we were never close friends growing up, so after graduation we both went on to live our lives and never kept in touch. As a child, I always knew I wanted to work in the health field. I wanted to help people, so initially I wanted to be a Doctor of some sort until I realized I couldn’t deal with blood and needles. My dad had a friend who was a Chiropractor and once I saw what he did, I realized I could be a Doctor minus the shots, surgery and dealing with blood. I would spend summer vacations working along side my father at the age of 16. He would have me at the job site performing light duties making sure I was learning along the way. Melissa Carpenter

Early in childhood I decided I wanted to be in the fashion world. Ripping out pages in Vogue and writing down my outfits then developed into attending FIT in NYC. I double majored in Men’s and Women’s fashion design and landed the very coveted job of men’s outerwear & board short designer for A&F back in the good ole first days of the mega brand.
