Sara Sangfelt of The Valley on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Sara Sangfelt and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been loving my workouts lately — cycling classes and Pilates at my favorite LA studios. There’ve been lots of hikes with my pup and friends, beach days, outdoor adventures, family visits, and even a few California winery trips. Such an amazing summer 🌊☀️

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hiii, I’m Sara Sangfelt! I’m a singer, songwriter, and topliner originally from Sweden, now based in Los Angeles. I create melodies, lyrics, and record vocals with artists and producers from all over the world — releasing music both under my own name and my alias, Scarlett.

People often say what sets me apart is my raspy, soulful tone and how I write from a real place. I’ve always been drawn to telling raw, emotional stories that listeners can actually feel. In a world where AI is taking up more space, I think authenticity matters more than ever.

I started out as a finalist on Swedish Idol and went on to perform at festivals and big stages across Europe before moving to LA. These days, I’m building an independent career and working with creators globally. Right now I’m deep into new projects that mix heartfelt songwriting with high-energy EDM and pop — music that I hope will move people both emotionally and physically. :)))

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Spending time at an orphanage in Awassa, Ethiopia, really changed how I see the world. I traveled there several times growing up, and every visit reminded me how deeply music can connect people. Even though we didn’t share a language, we connected through rhythm and melody — singing, clapping, laughing together. It showed me that music doesn’t need translation to mean something real. That lesson has stayed with me and still shapes how I write today. Music really is a universal language.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
There are so many things I’d want to say to my younger self haha. But I’d probably start with, “No one’s perfect — and you don’t have to be either.” Growing up, I didn’t know many creatives, and I think our brains just work a bit differently sometimes. It made me stand out, and not always in ways that felt good — I got bullied for being different and kept trying to fit in.

It took me a long time to realize that fitting in isn’t the goal. We’re meant to be different. The world needs all kinds of people and perspectives. So I’d tell her to keep being herself, keep creating, and remember that kindness and light go a long way — even when people don’t understand you yet.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Besides the usual pillars like kindness, empathy, creativity, and loyalty, I think my friends would say I really value the people closest to me — my family and friends mean everything to me. They’d probably also mention how much I love being outdoors, recharging in nature, and making memories through little adventures. And ofc music haha :))

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I have some kind of work-life balance haha. I feel most at peace sitting at the beach with a coffee in one hand, my pup next to me, writing music. Also when I’m working out or going for a walk with music or an audiobook in my ears — that’s where I recharge and find most of my inspiration to keep creating.
