Rising Stars: Meet Xóchitl (So-chil) Ashe of Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xóchitl (So-chil) Ashe

Xóchitl, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Xochitl (pronounced “So-chil”) Kusikuy Ashe is an Afro-Quechua Aymara medicine woman, representing the fifth generation of her family’s healing lineage. For the past three decades, Xochitl has been sharing her wisdom as a respected teacher, guide, author, and community builder, offering retreats, workshops, mentorships, and ceremonies across the world. At just 16 please improve this bio. No need to be legendary just an expert and powerful:Xochitl became the first woman in five generations to be initiated into her Peruvian ancestral healing traditions. For the past 30 years, she worked with her godfather, a Mazatec medicine man skilled in the ancient practice of healing with Teonanácatl (psilocybin mushrooms). Blending ancestral wisdom with Western trauma-informed therapies, such as internal family systems, Xochitl bridges ancient healing traditions with modern wellness practices. Beyond education, she is a passionate preserver of Indigenous teachings, an expert in plant spirit communication, and a devoted advocate for honoring sacred mushrooms. Through her unwavering commitment to these sacred practices, Xochitl not only helps individuals embark on joyful and empowered healing journeys but also ensures that these ancient traditions remain alive, relevant, and accessible for generations to come, so that we may remember that we live in a magical world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my life and career, I’ve faced numerous challenges that have ultimately shaped who I am today. One of my most profound journeys has been embracing my innate gifts of high sensitivity, empathy, and intuition. As a child and young adult, these abilities often felt overwhelming – I experienced the world with an intensity that others couldn’t quite understand.
However, what once seemed like a burden has blossomed into my greatest strength and the cornerstone of my life’s purpose. I’ve come to recognize that my heightened perceptions offer a unique lens through which to view the world, connecting deeply with others and accessing insights that many overlook.
This journey of self-discovery has been transformative, teaching me that our greatest challenges often conceal our most powerful gifts. Now, I channel my sensitivities into my work, using them to support others in finding their own power.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the founder of Magical Medicine Journeys, the first Indigenous female-owned retreat center in the world, located in the beautiful heart of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. At Magical Medicine Journeys, we specialize in creating a safe and sacred container for people to experience transformative ceremonies that support healing, rejuvenation, and deep personal transformation. Our approach is grounded in ancestral healing, trauma-informed practices, and community building. Through the use of sacred psilocybin mushrooms, we help participants heal past traumas, unlock their creativity, and connect to the truth within their hearts.

My work with the sacred mushroom is rooted in the traditions of my Peruvian Andean lineage and the ancient Mazatec practice of working with Teonanacatl. I guide people through profound healing processes, blending ancestral wisdom with modern insights to create ceremonies that foster freedom, joy, and personal growth. I also support people in healing ancestral burdens, with or without medicine, that may cause significant blocks and limitations.
What sets me apart is my unique combination of cultural heritage, decades of experience, and a deep commitment to preserving Indigenous healing traditions. Having been initiated into these traditions as the first female in my lineage, I bring both a sense of history and a vision for the future. I’m most proud of the impact we’ve had at Magical Medicine Journeys, where we’ve created a sanctuary for individuals to not only heal but also rediscover themselves in a deeply supportive environment.

Our work is more than just about healing—it’s about building a lasting community, preserving sacred traditions, and ensuring that these powerful practices continue to serve future generations.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is from when I was about three years old. My father, an artist and medicine man, expressed his creativity through jewelry making. At that time, he ran a jewelry business from home while my mom handled sales outside. Every day, he’d create a picnic for us in our backyard. We’d spend hours on the grass, playing and eating together. He would make sure that I was barefoot and I connected to the Earth. I vividly remember the stray dogs from our neighborhood. My dad always tried to feed them, and during our picnics, some would join us on the grass. These simple moments of connection with my father, the animals, and the Earth left a lasting impression on me.
