Rising Stars: Meet Vicky Lamb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicky Lamb.

Hi Vicky, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved crafting, from making posters in high school to making those 2000s DIY Denim bags out of old jeans, so naturally when it came to throwing my little one’s birthday I made a lot of the decor myself. In 2015 my husband bought me a Cricut and all the party decor got easier to make lol I almost instantly wanted to do more and bigger. I started my crafting business and for a while, I focused on paper flower walls and those things were a handmade labor of love I was able to create some amazing pieces for birthday parties, baby showers and my absolute favorite a prom on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. At the time I was a full-time store manager pursuing a career still within the fashion industry so I decided to go back to school so the crafting small business was pushed to the side while I worked on my bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising at CSULB with two little ones at home. I was a 2020 COVID graduate and even though I didn’t get to walk on graduation day it lit a fire; I landed a job with my dream company and with COVID still in full force we bought a glowforge and I started my small business back up in 2021. I started out with some home decor and everyday pieces but after making a QR Code sign for myself to use, at the one and only pop-up I ever vended at, it was a huge hit with other small businesses and I found my niche. I make signage, decor and functional items for other business with some other cool pieces mixed in 🙂

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not, from starting back in 2015, leaving it to go back to school and starting it back up during COVID and raising two amazing children it’s been a crazy road, but I am so lucky to have an amazingly supportive husband by my side. You want to hear something crazy? To this day, I have not made a single Etsy sale, I made a shop, promoted items but nothing and for a bit, that was discouraging but I didn’t give up, with the support of friends and family purchasing and promoting I slowly built my following and profile and I feel I’m exactly where I need to be right now which is; ready for a bigger laser lol

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make laser-cut and engraved wood or acrylic custom items. I focus on small business signage like Logos, QR code keychains and my most popular Scan Me business signs. I can also make wedding suites like welcome signs, drink stirrers, invites and my fave bar signs that can get the party started. What I am most proud of is the community of makers i’ve built and belong to, so many inspirational small business that I call my friends but we’ve never met in person lol What I think sets me apart is first off my purple hair lol in case you’ve never met me I definitely stand out for that, but I strongly believe in community over competition so I will always answer questions, create how to videos and drop any tips because I was that newbie once and even now I still rack my brain sometimes on how, so I like to be that go to person.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m lucky to have the support system I have, my husband is my best friend, I know it’s cheesy to say but he really is. He supports my crazy ideas and as much as he is not a maker or enjoys anything crafty, he helps when needed, like helping me set up that giant flower wall on the queen Mary or setting up and tearing down for my pop up and he is a math wizard so every once and a while I need his brain for a project and he’s always willing to help. He cooks most nights so I can be out in the garage making, but what I am the most luckiest about is our little family of four.
