Today we’d like to introduce you to Vee Adams.
Hi Vee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi and thank you for having me! So music, dance and sketching were the initial creative sparks for me as a child. Growing up, I was pretty shy & quiet, so these creative spaces were forms of my safest and greatest self-expression. I am self-taught in dance, drawing, and really any creative outlet I’ve chosen over the years. I remember days I would watch and study music videos, films, lyrics, books, and more. The creative world felt like an endless playground of freedom to me.
Dance initially shaped the beginning of my artistic journey. Eventually, I looked more into poetry, fashion, and modeling. I truly believe that energy can be transmuted into whatever you choose to do. I used to get frustrated that I had a difficult time focusing on one passion. But now I’m at a space in life where I realize it’s all a part of the learning process and Journey. And it’s pretty fun too!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Often times I wanted to give up being a Creative altogether. I didn’t have much support growing up when it came to transforming these outlets into careers. No mentors. No teachers. Not much support at all. Really just my little sister who was always pushing me and creating with me. That and me and my imagination. At times it was disheartening seeing other young creatives who went to classes, trained, had tons of support since they were young. My path forced me to get more creative, study on my own and just do what feels most intuitive. It taught me to trust myself.
My parents wanted me to get a normal job for financial stability which I understood. And because I didn’t have any direction, I almost did. I took a step back from creating or doing anything that brought me joy for years. But some of my creative friends always found ways to pull me back in. I’ve always been grateful for that.
Currently at a point in my life where I’m truly catching my own rhythm and more focused on what I love to do more than ever. At a place where I’m not ashamed to share my gifts and looking forward to sharing them with the world. One step at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
These days I simply would say I am a multi-hyphenated Creative. From dance, modeling, natural hair, fashion, art to poetry. I would say I specialize in Dance and natural hair. I’ve gotten to dance with various musical artists & dance teams, teach at different dance studios, competitions, and more. Dance will forever have a place in my heart and be my number one passion.
Natural hair is also something I specialize in as well. I graduated from VICI beauty school. And have been studying and styling my own hair for over 15 years. Also, I have had the opportunity to be a Coil Coach with an amazing hair company for other women looking to learn how to care for their curls. Through Fashion and hair, I found another form of self-expression that I cherish very much. I love bold, I love big and I love authenticity.
The greatest gifts I got from dance and hair are being able to help others and share information. Whether it’s through classes or sharing it through visuals. Within the next years, I am looking to channel all the outlets I’ve learned from: dance, hair, fashion, etc… into film and visuals. That is a dream.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating and spending time with loved ones and nature.
Creating is like breathing to me. Creating is my Freedom. My ally. My peace. It’s the visions, ideas, and energetic imprint that I will leave behind when I am long gone. I often ask myself what impact I want to leave here. How can my creative mind help? So if I can just help even just a few. I’m happy with that.
Spending time with those you care about even if it’s just conversation fills me up. I never want to be too lost in my goals that I forget the balance of community and nature. They’re extremely grounding for me and a blessing.
