Rising Stars: Meet Susy Ovalle of Ontario

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susy Ovalle

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey of documenting special moments initiated when my closest friend got engaged, and I truly wanted to capture that chapter for her. I invested in my first Canon DSLR which was what I used to photograph the next 10 years. After realizing it was a true passion, it just clicked it would be ideal to convert my hobby into a business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles are the ones especially faced when you are self taught. I’ve learned through trial & error, which meant I would do shoots come home and realize the photos weren’t quality. I wouldn’t understand why, I thought I was doing everything correct but I had to do research then attempt it all over again. Obviously the learning process for the most part was through free sessions that friends & family members were willing to have thankfully :).

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in photographing lifestyle images along with wedding photography and most known for making families comfortable in front of the lens. As an individual that is uncomfortable & awkward with photo taking, I truly appreciate making others loosen up.

I am most proud of the fact that I was able to start my business from scratch, while juggling my personal life and full-time career. Photography is priceless! Therefore, it is a joy to facilitate others in documenting every milestone in life.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Los Angeles is known best for its diverse culture, beautiful weather, and vibrant entertainment industry. Being the heart of the film & television industry, with iconic studios, I love that LA offers a thriving arts scene!

My dislikes of the city are the common struggles of a city life… the traffic, the expensive parking fees, and the dangers every city carries.
