Rising Stars: Meet Sun Rubin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sun Rubin.

Hi Sun, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
“I’m 31 years old, and my journey into photography began when I was 26, almost by accident. It all started when I stumbled upon a photography course online and decided to give it a shot. Little did I know it would ignite a passion for the visual arts within me. Following my newfound love, I ventured to Australia to explore, work, and capture moments through my lens. 

However, just as I was settling into my photography pursuits, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, prompting my return to my hometown. Determined to deepen my understanding of the captivating world of visuals, I embarked on a path to become an art director. 

For years, I honed my skills in advertising agencies, simultaneously nurturing my artistic talents. And finally, in the past year, I took the leap to establish myself as a photographer, freelancer, and artist, ready to embrace the boundless possibilities of the creative realm.” 

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Certainly, as time passes, you endeavor to initiate numerous collaborations, yet the overwhelming majority of responses you receive are negative. In essence, the art world presents a fractured landscape when it comes to sustaining oneself through creative endeavors. Oftentimes, your fervor for the craft and the final product eclipses monetary considerations, leading to toil without commensurate compensation. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My focus lies in fashion photography and contemporary surrealism art. What distinguishes my work is my unique style of expression and editing, characterized by bold contrasts. At the heart of my artistic agenda is the advocacy for animal rights, a message I aim to convey through my creations. Even within the realm of fashion, I strive to advocate for a compassionate approach, promoting designs that are devoid of animal cruelty. 

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
Certainly, the COVID-19 pandemic played a significant role in shaping my career trajectory. It prompted me to delve deeper within myself and realize that the answers I seek lie within rather than externally.
