Rising Stars: Meet Steve Maggiora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Maggiora.

Hi Steve, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out in a performing arts group shortly after leaving Chapman University. Focusing on performance as well as orchestration and music production, that led me to working with bands as a live sound engineer. I attended the Los Angeles Recording School in 2008 to further my training and ended up dabbling on both sides of the mic working in recording studios and live music venues in various musical projects some nights and working as an audio engineer on others. Fast forward a decade and some change, I’m now playing keys and singing background vocals for TOTO, working as a studio musician in-studio and remotely for international clients, creating music as a solo artist, and mentoring up-and-coming recording engineers and producers through Produce Like A Pro Academy and the Produce Like A Pro YouTube channel.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always bumps in the road. Since moving to Southern California in 2003, I’ve lived in over a dozen places including living in my car intermittently when things got bad. I’ve been broke, which taught me to be scrappy. I’ve been used, which taught me to be clear and communicative. I’ve been lied to, betrayed, passed up, beat up, beat down, etc. but as I see it, it all becomes fuel for the creative fire, and that fire is burning brighter than ever!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a songwriter, live and studio musician, producer and travel enthusiast! Most notably, I play keyboards and sing backing vocals for TOTO since 2020. I’ve been in touring bands and projects most of my adult life, and to say that the TOTO gig is a dream would be a gross understatement. I couldn’t imagine of working with a more talented, professional, and down-t0-earth group of people, both band and crew!

Both on and off the road, I also work as a content creator and mentor for Produce Like A Pro Academy, providing multitrack sessions and mix breakdown videos every other Monday for aspiring mix engineers and producers through my “Sessions with Steve” program, as well as releasing new music every Friday on my Patreon page. It is a lot of work and a lot of fun getting all of that organized, especially when you’re in a new city every day. It takes a tremendous amount of work ethic to get up every day and grind, and I feel like that grind is where I thrive.

In the last year alone, I’ve released 32+ songs on Patreon in addition to 12 solo piano albums. I’ve got a ton of music on streaming services for y’all to check out as well, most recently being the explosive 2nd single “It’s Time” by Trev Lukather from his new self-titled musical project!
