Today we’d like to introduce you to Soul Mobb. Them and their team share their story with us below:
It all started when Soulmobbdon wanted to rap when he was in 6th grade. When he moved to Riverside the following year, he met Soulmobbace; who he was amazed with his rapping ability at such a young age. After a while of watching him rap, Don asked Ace if he would like to become a duo with him and Ace agreed. And that’s where it all began. More members would come, and it began to grow into what it is today. Starting all off as friends, everyone in the mob grew to brotherhood status and that’s how the magic of what we do works out so great.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, absolutely not. It has been one hell of a road so far, and we are still far from close of where we want to be. At one point we had over 10 members in the group doing different things, but internal problems began to happen and it caused a majority of people to leave. And what was left at the time was Soulmobbdon, SoulmobbBza, Soulmobbace, and Soulmobbvntge. And we did what we had to do to grow from that. Then probably our hardest struggle we faced was signing to a record label, for a one able deal, and not making a single dime off of it. We spent way more money on the making of that album for it, it our ears, to sound bad and too not gain any financial revenue. Once out we set to rebranding ourselves and doing everything independently but that, by far, was the worst thing we had got through.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Soul Mobb Inc. is a hip-hop group to the core. In order for everything to run smoothly we all play our parts in our business. SoulmobbBza is our main producer, while also being an active rapper and singer. Soulmobbdon is the second rapper in the group and usually handles majority of business for the group. He makes sure that everything can be as smooth as possible. Soulmobbace works in our creative team of ideas and photos and etc. He also produces for the group as well from time to time. Soulmobbvntge is our main drummers for when we do live shows and is an actor in our videos while also a member of our creative team. Ladysmandan does all of the drawing for the group and also help in the creative team. We are proud of many things but so far, our song “Bamboo” is what we are most proud of. It’s a great song and has funny video. Many people say it’s the best thing we’ve released to date and we’re grateful for the friendships and opportunities it’s given us so far. What sets us up from others doing what we want in our opinion is originality. We make what we like, and make sure it’s new and innovative and not something everyone has heard already. We do not hide who we really are, and never pretend to be something or someone we are not. Our goal is to keep making dope stuff and hope the rest of the world is listening and watching.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice we can give is originality is king. Do not make the exact same thing that you hear is popular. No one wants to hear a copycat. If you’re not bringing anything new to the table, then leave and come back when you do. One thing we wish we knew starting out was to not expect everyone to jump on our train so fast. It takes time, energy, and work to see real results. Until you do all three, things will be a snail’s race.
