Rising Stars: Meet Sofiya Turin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofiya Turin.

Hi Sofiya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started as a high school English teacher and counselor. My purpose was to work with teens and to help them better navigate the currents and swells of life. I l aspired to be the adult that I had so desperately needed as an adolescent. This was the beginning of my journey and slowly, it opened new doors and opportunities. A few years later, I became a mother and motherhood coupled with my time spent in the classroom further clarified my life purpose of being of service in the world. My intention was to blend all of my experience, education and interests together to create something that was uniquely my own. All of these things came together and brought me to where I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is never too smooth. I have faced doubt, fear, worry, insecurity, and confusion along the way. I second-guessed myself and my intuition. I didn’t believe that I was ever “ready.” I suffered from imposter syndrome, believing that I was not good enough and that I was just faking my competence. At times, I wanted to run away and disappear so that I wouldn’t have to worry about rejection or let down. I tried to stay in my comfort zone but life pushed me forward. We are often our biggest enemies. It is not always easy to trust or have faith in our own abilities, but it is necessary. Eventually, I had to let go and trust myself to fly, believing in the power of my wings to keep me afloat.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It’s hard to find a category, box or label that truly fits. First and foremost, I am a creator. My creative work is the most important thing that I bring to this life. My creativity is harnessed and displayed in my poetry, in my teaching, in my yoga and meditation practice, in my life-coaching business, in my parenting and relationships and in the way that I show up in the world in general. Creativity is a force that runs through everything that I do and aspire to do. We are all creators, constantly creating through our thoughts, words and actions I am grateful for my strong intuition and my ability to receive and share the art that longs to be expressed. I am known for my ability to connect with people, to listen closely and compassionately and to see the big picture. I am dedicated to being a channel for the expression of source. I am dedicated to spreading love, light and kindness to all those who I work with and I am grateful for the opportunity to assist people in finding their unique gifts and talents and inspiring them to live their best lives by being fully present, open and aware.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is discovering that I was a writer. I remember falling in love with words and writing and telling stories. I remember writing my first poem at the age of 11 or so. It was so magical to sit down and harness the flow of inspiration to combine words in a beautiful and meaningful way. Writing was my solace and refuge. Discovering writing was like discovering superpowers I never knew I had. The possibilities felt endless. That memory is incredibly sweet and still warms my heart today.
