Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Stefou.
Hi Sofia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The most daring leap I’ve ever made was relocating from Toronto to Los Angeles. While these cultures may seem similar, they have distinct mindsets and values that took some adjusting. This shift was sparked by a revelation at a 2017 New Year’s Eve party. I realized that without significant change, my life would remain stagnant—something I was determined to prevent. This led me to chase a dream: attending a comedy improv class at the Upright Citizens Brigade in LA.
Taking this class was the beginning of an extraordinary journey that transformed my life and future. An integral part of this transition was starting an entertainment company, Vidacher, based in LA. Simultaneously, I reunited with Canadian colleague Kat Brandsgrove to work on our first Christmas Rom-Com and Thriller feature. These films embodies our signature blend of attention, quality, humor, and horror.
My journey in the entertainment industry began while I was working as an extra in Bollywood films during a marketing internship in India. On a train ride from Goa to Delhi, I read Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist,” which inspired me to pursue my dream relentlessly. Realizing I had always wanted to act, I decided to start this adventure in Bollywood instead of waiting to return to Canada. This marked the start of a two-decade-long career in acting, production, and occasional writing, which continues today.
Alongside my partner, Joseph Benjamin, I lead Vidacher. We are dedicated to producing engaging, insightful, and high-quality entertainment projects. Our unique selling proposition is our marketing-centric worldview, shaping our project selection and promotional strategies. Our most cherished accomplishment is the ability to collaborate with exceptional individuals who share our dedication to excellence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This narrative is set in the present as Vidacher navigates its transition into the entertainment industry. We’ve had conversations with industry heavyweights, encountered scams, but these experiences have served as lessons, fortifying our resolve to succeed. Now, we stand on the cusp of producing our debut film, with a plethora of more to follow.
I believe that our persistence, our ability to take each day as it comes, and our unwavering determination to stay on track are truly remarkable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My journey in the entertainment industry took root while I was working as an extra in Bollywood films during a marketing internship in India, aligning with my degree. On a train ride from Goa to Delhi, I chanced upon Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist,” which introduced me to the concept of pursuing a dream relentlessly. This sparked a realization: I had always harbored the aspiration to act, so why not commence this adventure in Bollywood instead of awaiting my return to Canada? This epiphany marked the onset of a two-decade-long career in acting, production, and occasional writing, which still thrives today.
What matters most to you? Why?
One significant realization is how much I values mutually beneficial collaborations. It is central to everything we do at VidaCher. Comedy improv provides an excellent analogy – when two performers sync effectively, listening and cooperating, they create a masterpiece far superior to anything they could have crafted individually. That’s the mindset I bring to each professional interaction.and the kinds of people I see out for collaborations.
