Rising Stars: Meet Sloane Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sloane Wilson.

Sloane Wilson

Hi Sloane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Toronto and grew up in a city just outside of it. When I was three years old, my mom took me to a performance of The Lion King. Although I’m sure it was a great show, I cried the entire time because I just wanted to be on stage. It was then that my desire to perform began. I started out as a dancer. For the majority of my childhood, I was heavily involved in competitive dancing. I performed in jazz, ballet, contemporary, acro, lyrical, modern, hip hop, and my absolute favorites – musical theatre & tap. I loved tap dancing so much that I eventually represented Team Canada for two years at the World Tap Dance Championships in Germany.

Although I had slightly dipped my toes in acting, it wasn’t until high school that I really developed a passion for it. After getting involved in different productions, I knew that this was something I wanted to pursue. I ended up completing a Bachelor’s at Queen’s University, studying drama and film. While at school, I joined many different organizations and became a member of Queen’s Pom Team, getting to perform at competitions and sporting events. In my third year, I did a semester abroad where I had the opportunity to take drama classes in England. As I approached my final year, I felt that I needed more acting training before venturing out in the professional industry. I auditioned and got accepted to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. This was truly a dream come true. I was going to be training in two of the best cities for film & TV – New York and Los Angeles. I fell in love with Los Angeles and since graduating have been lucky enough to call it my home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has definitely not been easy and still very much isn’t. By the time I reached grade 12, my heart was set on attending college in the US. Yet after the grueling process of applications and traveling to different states for auditions, I didn’t get accepted to a single one. I was seriously devastated.

Now looking back, I really believe that everything happens for a reason. Not only did I get to experience a lot of other great opportunities instead, I’m even more appreciative to be where I am today.

Every day I’m faced with the highs and lows of the industry and the added challenge of being an International. However, it all has really been paying off so far.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actor, dancer, and singer (sometimes). Since finishing school, I have been working on lots of different projects around LA. One of the best experiences I’ve had so far was getting to be a Laker Girl on season two of HBO’s “Winning Time.” It was so incredible to work at Warner Bros. Studios and to incorporate my dance training. Another dance opportunity that I loved was performing at the Youtube Theater as a backup dancer for La India Yuridia. It felt surreal dancing on such a huge stage in front of so many people.

I am currently acting in a psychological thriller that is being shot in LA and San Diego. For this film, we’ll be spending a week in cabins down in Julian. It has been quite an exciting process so far, and I can’t wait to finally bring my character to life.

Besides the performing arts, I have always been super interested in health and fitness. When I was younger, my friend Katrina and I started a successful YouTube channel called “Fit For A Feast.” We focused on encouraging youth to live a healthy lifestyle through videos on cooking, dancing, tutorials, and more. The channel has now reached 179,000 subscribers and 92.5 million views.
