Rising Stars: Meet Sage Thankachen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage Thankachen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? 
When I was young, I always wanted to try as many new things as possible. My parents were very supportive. Eventually, I took a very strong interest in Music. I started learning the piano first, which I enjoyed, then I started playing the guitar and singing. Music is one of the things I stuck with my whole life to the point where I started to write and produce my own original songs. I released my first single in 2022, and within the past couple of years, I have released numerous successful singles. At the start of 2024, I released my first EP with six songs! 

I also took the time to learn video editing and filmed and edited my music video for my song, “Girl in My Screen,” at the end of 2023, and it reached half a million views on YouTube. I am looking forward to making more music and music videos. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the lockdowns of 2020, all the open mics and performance opportunities that I had been counting on in the previous years disappeared. However, I was able to turn a negative into a positive by using the extra time to hone my music production skills and utilize online resources that I found to perform and learn. 

This time was a very important time for me to realize my true potential when it came to producing and releasing my songs. 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a self-produced music artist that specializes in pop mixed with a little EDM or acoustic sounds. 

I am very proud of the songs I have released so far. “Tracing Sidewalks” was my first single to reach 100,000 streams on Spotify, and it was number one on the Iceland editorial chart on Spotify. 

The self-produced nature of my songs means that I have full creative control over my style and sound. I always love to blend genres and textures to get the vibe that each release needs. 

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am a huge nerd! I am always researching technology or tinkering with things. I custom-built the computer in my home studio that I also use for gaming cause I’m also a huge gamer. My friends and family always ask me questions about their tech, and I’m always happy to help out!
