Rising Stars: Meet Ruben Cruz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben Cruz.

Hi Ruben, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Grew up with the passion for music in general. Love all genres. Started freestyling any moment there was an opportunity. Linked together with a friend of mine named Grizzle. Recorded our first song off of a headphone as a recording mic. Fell in love with recording and just never stopped. I have so much unreleased music it’s stockpiling. Close friends, I have recently been urging me to drop all of it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life isn’t a smooth road. But music is always there for me. I guess one of the biggest struggles I have encountered is it work-related injury. Through me off course for a long time. I’ve always made music and I’ll never stop. But it doesn’t pay the bills but boy, do I have a passion for it. So at the moment, I’m reinventing myself career-wise. While simultaneously dabbling in music

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hip-hop recording artist. I write all my own music do my own vocals. I record at is several different studios. I guess what sets me apart is, I make music that I want to make. I’m not following trends. I make whatever I feel. I’m obsessed with creating my own sound. One of my most recent songs called running game is one of my favorites. When I was looking for an instrumental, I wanted to challenge myself. Went outside of the hip-hop genre and Chose a K-pop style beat. When I was recording in the beginning, my friend Grizzle groomed me by making me attack all styles. In the beginning, it made me uncomfortable but now it’s made me very resilient.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory growing up, I honestly was MTV. Watching all those music videos. Fascinated glued to the culture. Also, an earlier memory is riding in A work truck with my dad. He had so many cassettes and he would always let me pick which ones I wanted to listen to. He had a huge suitcase underneath the seat. I really don’t know if my dad understands but he’s one of the main reasons I fell in love with music.
