Rising Stars: Meet Rossely Tapia of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rossely Tapia.

Hi Rossely, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Since a short age I understood how the world works. Dad and Mom taught me that if I wanted something, I needed to work as much as possible to get it. They work in the textile industry thus, my world was filled out of fabric colors, textures, and threads. It is not a surprise to end up working in it. Everytime I would look to a clothing piece, I always hear my mother’s voice in the back : “touch it, feel it…” as if the clothing piece itself was alive and it was trying to tell me something. I started understanding the fashion industry. It was not about a simple clothing piece, it was about what this specific dress, shirt or scarf can make you feel. My love for fashion emerged when I arrived to Los Angeles. I realized the amount of people who could understand what I have been taught all my life. I interned as a fashion stylist assitant for Flaunt and other magazines and knew I was in the right place with the right people. After a while, I started posting my sketches and draping on social media. I did not get too many people to notice me but I ended in the right person’s feed. A company from Los Angeles contacted me and asked if I could make a runway for them with other designers and with no money on my pockets, I declined it. They insisted and asked to do it for free, I accepted. It was my first time showing my talent to the world. It came out amazing. Fast-forward, NYFW called me and asked to do a fashion show so, we did. It was magical. There is a lot of path to walk and it is exciting to keep learning from it. I have been invited to different fashion shows now hoping that more people can identify with my brand and wear my designs.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road started since I was little. From sketching in my diaries to sketching for a fashion show. The road to my dream is barely getting started and it is clearly not easy since it is a 24/7 job that has all my passion. We are learning, we are growing and we are excited for new upcoming things.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work consists on taking inspiration from nature, people and history in order to create the most artistic and loving designs a woman can wear. Everything I do is meant to enhance women’s beauty. We are very proud to say that we set apart from others since we are a sustainable brand. Rossely Tapia makes one or two pieces maximum per design. We are always looking to be as unique and exclusive as possible.

What makes you happy?
I am truly happy when I create. I am a natural artist and as an artist, seeing that other people appreaciate my art by wearing my designs. That is the most exciting part, truly.
