Rising Stars: Meet Pavan Basra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pavan Basra.

Hi Pavan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey with healing has evolved so much over the years. I started off as only a mental health therapist and empowerment coach. However, the entire industry is slowly evolving into a route that I am more passionate about and am able to practice as so – incorporating spiritual and psychedelic healing into my coaching work. I became intrigued with psychology, healing, philosophy, and psychedelics at a very young age. I was able to attend my first ayahuasca ceremony at age 25 which open to new doors of spirituality, inner child healing, and intragenerational healing.

My therapy and coaching healing practice now incorporates deep inner child healing and awareness and psychedelic integration coaching after a person has a personal psychedelic experience and needs assistance making sense of it. I am now able to incorporate these passions into my coaching practice while still maintaining a separate clinical therapy practice and managing a wellness agency for womxn of color (www.woctherapy.com). Outside of coaching and clinical therapy I am president of a Brazilian-affiliated church in Los Angeles. I will also soon be certified and psychedelic-assisted therapy to help others dive deeper into psychedelic healing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth for me as this journey was extremely difficult for my own healing. I was forced to look internally deep within myself and intergenerationally to ensure that I can be a competent healer for others. This journey caused me grief while re-learning and re-teaching myself things that I was brought up with due to intergenerational trauma and society. However, I knew that in order to be a good healer I must go deeper within my only healing and that is never easy to do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed mental health therapist, empowerment coach, psychedelic integration coach, associate director of WOC Therapy, and president of an ayahuasca church in Los Angeles. I focus on inner child healing, intergenerational healing, and providing inclusive spaces for people of color. I was trained under an Ayahuasqueiro and church leader in Brazil in April of 2022 and I have now helped open a church branch in Los Angeles to help Church members heal and tap deeper into spirituality.

What sets me apart from other healers is that I have had the opportunity to do this type of healing with my parents who are South Asian – This is very unheard of in our culture. I know that if it was possible for me to pave the way for this intense beautiful healing I can help many others do the same.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned the importance of slowing down, listening to your body, and enjoying your own space rather than having to go out all the time for stimulation.

Before Covid, I was constantly trying to stay busy and burning myself out. However, after Covid, I have learned that it is so important to slow down and just enjoy the art of doing nothing as well. For example. I am currently doing this interview laying in a hammock looking at the sky!
