Today we’d like to introduce you to Oaklee Thompson.
Hi Oaklee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started making soap for personal use a couple of years ago. It started as a way to become more self-sufficient and create something that we use daily. I started getting a lot of people asking if they could purchase the soap, and so I thought, “why not?!” I rose to the occasion and have had a lot of fun with it since then.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some struggles along the way have been staying organized and keeping up with demand during busy times (since I am only one person) and having faith when things were slow. Also, figuring out what people want before they do, so I can make the right combinations has been a fun challenge.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make all-natural, handmade soap in small batches. I also offer custom-designed soap loaves and custom gift boxes, which makes me unique. I have so much fun collaborating with my customers to create something unique for them to give as gifts, party favors, shower or wedding favors, and just for personal use! There’s nothing I enjoy more than bringing their vision to life and seeing them appreciate their own personal, one-of-a-kind soap! When it comes to making soap for my regular inventory, I have a lot of fun switching it up and making new combinations. It can be trial and error getting a batch just right… but through this method, I am constantly discovering new and awesome soaps for people to try! This way, my inventory is never stagnant, but always evolving.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband has been very supportive and helpful throughout it all. He is also a great soap-namer when I come up with a new creation. My mom has also been so supportive and deserves special recognition. Of course, all my customers deserve special appreciation for choosing my work and trusting me to make great quality soap!
