Rising Stars: Meet Noe Carrera of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noe Carrera.

Hi Noe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up straddling two worlds—the rugged High Desert of Southern California and the vibrant culture of Mexico— I never saw anyone who shared my vision of the world—my fierce approach to self-expression, my unapologetic love for myself and others, especially when it came to sexuality. So, I decided to stop waiting for someone to show me the way. In my twenties, I took a giant leap and became my own role model—flipping the script on what success and authenticity look like. Becoming the role model I so desperately needed.
My journey began with self-love and transformation. After a profound weight loss of over 200 pounds, I found the confidence to fully embrace who I am—not just in body, but in spirit. This wasn’t about fitting into society’s mold or showcasing skin; it was about shattering expectations and rewriting the rules of style, sexuality, and identity on my own terms.
Originally, I dreamed of a career in education. While studying, I worked as a Paraeducator in Special Education, focusing on Behavioral Education. I wasn’t your typical educator—I didn’t fit the traditional image—but every day, I poured my heart into helping students break free from challenging circumstances. I empowered them to find strength, courage, and the path to their dreams, whether that was in entertainment, teaching, or simply breaking cycles of hate. Those students remain close to my heart, and I carry their stories with me always.
Parallel to this, I worked long hours as a barista at Dutch Bros, where I met creatives and kindred spirits who inspired me to live authentically. This environment ignited the courage to chase dreams I had once been told were “out of reach.” From the dusty streets of the High Desert to the glittering hills of Hollywood, I started building a new life—one shaped by resilience, passion, and a refusal to conform.
My growing confidence propelled me in unexpected ways. After years behind the camera as a concert photographer, I began collaborating with local photographers and stylists, and crafting a bold, versatile aesthetic that challenged traditional ideas of masculinity and style. I flipped the script and stepped into the spotlight, commanding attention with every look and collaboration. I quickly became a sought-after figure in the nightlife scene, dazzling crowds as a dancer and nightlife entertainer, and hosting afterparties for industry giants like the Grammys, BET Awards, AMAs, and the Emmys and many more.
My story isn’t just about transformation—it’s about owning every moment, breaking every mold, and setting a new standard for what it means to live boldly and authentically. From no one to someone who commands a room, I’m living proof that when you believe in yourself and refuse to settle, the sky isn’t the limit—it’s just the beginning. A testament to the power of embracing who you are and daring to live your truth.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? Not even close. My road has been jagged, messy, beautiful, and brutal—and I’ve walked it in heels, broken sneakers, and sometimes barefoot with nothing but grit keeping me moving.
Growing up, I was bullied for everything that made me me—my body, my style, my culture. I was too “different,” too expressive, too much. And while I was learning to survive the cruelty of kids at school, I was also carrying a much heavier weight: I experienced s*xual trauma at a very young age. Instead of finding support, I faced judgment—even from my own family. The silence that followed was louder than any scream.
I was navigating my sexuality before I even understood who I was. And with a father who dipped in and out of my life before finally leaving for good—choosing his affairs over his own child—I learned early what it feels like to be discarded. That kind of abandonment doesn’t just hurt; it lingers. It shapes you.
My home life was no safe haven either. As I stepped into my femininity and claimed my identity, I was met with suspicion and shame. My weight loss, a triumph I had worked hard for, was twisted into accusations of drug use. My queerness was something to be “fixed,” not celebrated. Eventually, I was kicked out—pushed into the streets with nothing but a dream and the determination to survive.
I lived out of my car. I went days without food, nights without safety. And when survival became a matter of desperation, I turned to stripping. At first, it was power—I was reclaiming my body, my image. But soon that world dragged me into darker corners, where s*x work became less of a choice and more of a chain. That chapter came with violence, exploitation, and a spiral into substance abuse that I had to claw my way out of—alone.
There were no lifelines. No family support. Just me, scraping together strength from the ashes of everything I’d been through.
But here’s the twist: I made it. I turned the trauma into power, the pain into performance, and the silence into a voice that refuses to go unheard. I became me—not in spite of the struggle, but because of it. And every time I step onto a stage, into a spotlight, or into my truth, I’m not just surviving—I’m thriving, fiercely and unapologetically.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc.?
I am a model, dancer, nightlife entertainer, and walking piece of performance art based in Southern California. My work lives where fashion meets performance and where movement becomes a message. I use my body, my style, and my voice to tell stories that challenge norms and spark connection. Whether I’m on the runway, under a spotlight, or curating a killer look for an afterparty, I live at the intersection of fashion, movement, and unapologetic expression. I’m known for my fluid, fearless style, my ability to command a room, and my vibe—that kind of magnetic energy you feel before I even say a word.

What are you most proud of?
Honestly? That I built this life from the ground up, no blueprint, no safety net. From surviving a 200+ pound weight loss journey to completely reinventing how I saw myself, I turned my insecurities into art. I’m proud that I went from behind the lens as a concert photographer to owning the lens as a model and performer. I’ve hosted afterparties for the biggest nights in entertainment, danced on stages I once dreamed of standing near, and built a brand that’s rooted in boldness, beauty, and breaking the rules. Every success has come from betting on myself—and I haven’t lost yet.

What sets you apart from others?
I don’t just enter a room—I shift the energy. What sets me apart is that I blur lines, break boxes, and turn performance into power. I’m not afraid to mix glam with grit, vulnerability with fire. My style is a statement, my presence is a brand, and my message is clear: be loud, be real, and take up space. I’m not here to fit the industry standard—I’m here to rewrite it. I’m the moment and the movement.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
While mainstream media doesn’t always offer the kind of inspiration that speaks directly to me, I’ve found my real motivation in the people around me—the ones who show up, who hustle, who turn their passions into purpose. My closest friends have been the heartbeat of my journey. I owe so much of my drive and growth to people like Joshua Perez, Julia Bien, Joshua Jones, Abby Corey, Jocelyn Cruz, Nicole Gomez, my brother Manuel and the rest of my chosen family who constantly remind me of what’s possible when you stay grounded and go after what you love.
However, the one piece of media that has truly inspired me is the movie Burlesque. It’s more than just a favorite film—it’s been a guiding light throughout my journey. Like Christina Aguilera’s character in the movie, I’m a dancer now, pouring my heart and soul into every performance. The story’s themes of resilience, passion, and chasing dreams have fueled my drive not only to work in nightlife but also to overcome some of the toughest moments in my life. When I had nothing, when I found myself on the streets with only hope and a dream, Burlesque reminded me to keep pushing forward and believe in the possibility of a brighter future.
Much of my work lives in the world of drag shows, where I perform as a dancer and creative collaborator. That space—rooted in queer resilience, artistry, and authenticity—has become more than just a stage for me. It’s been a source of empowerment and visibility. I have endless gratitude for the drag and LGBTQ+ communities for creating the platform where I can show up fully as myself. I especially want to thank my drag mother, Azalea McMichaels, for opening the door not only for me as a performer but as someone who now gets to represent the voices that are often overlooked. Her mentorship has helped shape me into a performer with purpose.
The journey hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve been carried by the community—and that’s what continues to push me forward.
