Today we’d like to introduce you to May Eugenio
Hi May, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started trying to figure out which route I wanted to take. Being an Asian American, I wanted pursue the medical field like my mom went through, However, I felt it was not my path. As a teenager, while volunteering at my local parks and recreation, is how I found my true calling. This is where I was a recreational leader and was around kids, and creating programs for them. I found that going the educational route was the way to go, so I ended up getting my masters in education. Teaching has been what has fulfilled my life for the past two decades.
Never stop learning showed a commitment to continuous growth and self-improvement. This motto encouraged me to remain curious, open-minded, and engaged in acquiring new knowledge and skills throughout my life. In addition to being a teacher, I decided to incorporate network marketing. This was the opportunity to build professional networks and connections in different fields or industries. I could utilize my community in more ways.
One of the opportunities started off with one of the largest direct selling skin care and color cosmetic companies in the world. This was my first encounter with multi-level marketing, and it was a positive experience. This community played a crucial role in the success and growth of my future network marketing efforts. I decided to take a turn into a more holistic approach (thanks to my husband Mike) with products that would be more beneficial. So I found another company that focused on health and wellness. With a daughter with special needs, and friends and family members who had ailments, I invested towards healthier lifestyles and natural health solutions. This was the path to take. The water industry.
I am able to not just educate my elementary students, I can engage in educational outreach to raise awareness about the benefits of proper hydration and water quality. “Change Your Water, Change Your Life.”
Overall, educating others is a powerful way to contribute positively to the world and to create meaningful connections with those around me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is life smooth sailing? Life is rarely smooth sailing. It often has its share of challenges, ups, and downs. Even when things seem to be going well, unexpected bumps or waves can arise. The key is how we navigate these challenges and adapt to change. It’s the mix of smooth and rough patches that shapes our experiences and helps us grow. Of course I had to use this phrase because I seem to be all about water.
The major struggle I have had is balancing my time between work and family. It is challenging to go to events and work on business with my daughter who has special needs. From birth she was diagnosed with physical and developmental delay, and she is dependent from the basic needs such as feeding, bathing, getting dressed, using the restroom, as well as dealing with her unexpected illnesses. Therefore having things that are preplanned are challenging to follow through since she can be difficult with her reactions. Despite wearing multiple hats as a mother, wife, teacher, sister, daughter, friend, community member, small business owner, I also have to navigate my way around my daughter’s needs. Sometimes this will include canceleing appointments, meetings, and other events that could help my business. However, family does come first! Isn’t this why we pursue these things, to leave a legacy?
Despite these challenges, many home-based business owners like myself will find creative solutions and adapt their strategies to overcome these obstacles and thrive in their ventures.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It all comes down to education. My mission is impacting individuals and society as a whole. I have been teaching elementary students in the public school system for over two decades. I truly enjoy seeing the growth in students and building strong relationships with students and their families.
Educating others enriches lives,
Not only do I teach elementary students, I also teach people on proper hydration. I decided to venture in this industry because of the health issues that my loved ones have gone through. One of my friends calls me “CKC”, which stands for “Community Kangen Cutie”. Kangen means “return to origin”, and it is something that our bodies need to get back to, where we can be healthier. I love to help my community by sampling out this type of water, and for teaching others how changing their water can change their life. Another friend of mine says that I do these demonstrations in an easy to understand way. It must be from years of working with young children that I can use simple language instead of technical jargon or complex terminology.
Overall, my dual roles as a teacher and small business owner have enhanced my ability to lead, manage, and innovate in ways that a more singular focus might not allow, providing a rich and diverse background that can be leveraged for growth and success in both areas.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In essence, being a risk taker means balancing the potential for high rewards with the possibility of failure, all while navigating the uncertainties that come with running a small business. One of the things that stands out to me is realizing that not everyone is going to be on this journey with me. I was already in multiple network businesses, and I found that people wouldn’t take me seriously. I did take a chance on this current company I am with, and have dedicated my time to it. Sometimes if you’re highly knowledgeable and confident in a particular area, then putting your “eggs all in one basket” is worth the risk when starting your own business.
Being a risk taker as a teacher means pushing boundaries to find the most effective ways to support and inspire students, all while being open to learning from both successes and setbacks. I find that if I tell my students about having a growth mindset, which means that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, hard work, and learning, then they can truly achieve what they believe if they decide to take a risk.
I feel that I have the willingness to experiment, embrace challenges and learn from failures by being a risk taker.
