Rising Stars: Meet Martha Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Sanchez.

Martha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was fresh out of high school when I was given the opportunity to interview for a part-time position at a local cosmetic department counter. I had zero makeup experience, zero makeup of my own, and I borrowed my sister’s mascara and gloss for the interview. I walked into the meeting and presented myself as the best fit, I was hired on the spot.

My part-time cosmetic job was meant to support my school fees. However, after several years, many prestigious awards and numerous promotions, I was recruited by one of the largest global cosmetic companies as a national trainer. Unfortunately, a decline in the economy led to company-wide layoffs and the end of my corporate career. I took the opportunity to explore my creative sensibilities, and it gave birth to the beginning of my career of as a make-up artist. I put myself through makeup school, graduated top of my class and began working on set for productions in TV and Film.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey as a striving makeup artist was not smooth or linear, but the need for a creative outlet propelled me forward. I enrolled in local art classes to strengthen my color theory skills, emersed myself in acrylic painting and created art that was showcased in Downtown Santa Ana art galleries.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a makeup artist and create both beauty and special fx looks for television and film. I create talent-focused, personalized experiences centered on creativity and passion. Make-up artistry is art in dynamic form; however, delivering elevated one-of-a-kind services to the talent that sit in my makeup chair sets me apart from the rest. I am proud of the fact that my professionalism and skills keep me working and highly requested.

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing the sunshine illuminate my room in the morning brings a smile to my face. I also consider myself extremely blessed and lucky to care for my elderly parents. They are the absolute best human beings I’ve had the privilege of knowing. They are kind, selfless and love unconditionally. Being a second-generation Mexican-American, I hope I make them proud. When I grow up, I want to be just like them 😊
