Rising Stars: Meet Mark Hannoun of Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Hannoun

Hi Mark, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hannoun Rugs from Morocco is where to find America’s richest source of authentic Berber rugs from the Beni Ouarain tribe, and from all around Morocco. In 2004, Mark Hannoun, principal owner, began his journey in the Moroccan rug business, by 2005 he opened his first store in Chicago, IL. After a decade of running a successful business in Chicago, Mark made his way to Los Angeles where he opened his current shop and continued his passion for bringing Moroccan treasures to your home. Fluent in Arabic, the native language of Morocco, he travels there frequently to hand select and work closely with weavers from various tribes to source only the finest rugs made of high-quality wool, dyes, and tribal designs. As a veteran in the rug business, Mark has garnered clients and followers from around the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a smooth road, but big box companies competed with us mass producing similar rugs with low qualities, cheaper prices hurting the authenticities of our one of a kind art collection.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I travel to the villages and mountains of Morocco, meet with the rugs weavers, hand select their work of art, learn from them the meanings of their tribal patterns, the joy and pain they reflect in their textiles as a way of expressing their daily lifestyle living in a different environment were these rugs are woven as floor mats and blankets to protect them from the harsh winter cold weather, then bring these rugs to share with my clients who appreciate the beauty, the sole and the happy personaleiteis these rugs have.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The best quality is bringing new tribal art to share, also, in the last 20 years in this field is building a close relationship with most of my customers who keep in touch with me all the time appreciating what they have collected and always refer friends to me. I’m very honest and genuine as I believe customer satisfaction is the goal to bring them back.
