Rising Stars: Meet Marisa Mays of San Diego Ca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Mays

Hi Marisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2013, I introduced bike lighting to San Diego after meeting the originators from Venice Beach and Dockweiler State Beach. Using AA battery-powered string lights in every color, I created quick pop-up lighting for bicycle spokes at a time when bike lighting was barely a thing. I started at Santee Lakes and Campland on the Bay, then traveled across cities and states, spreading the movement of “LIT” bikes. Today, I have my own line of manufactured light kits, making it easier than ever for riders to stand out.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey wasn’t always smooth. In the early days, many bicycle riders weren’t open to adding LED lights like they are now. Convincing people to embrace the trend took time and persistence. While the movement eventually grew, there were still challenges along the way. However, with passion and dedication, Light Me Up Safety Lights kept rolling, turning obstacles into opportunities.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Light Me Up Safety Lights specializes in high-quality, easy-to-install bike lighting, bringing safety and creativity to riders of all ages. Known for vibrant, customizable lights, we’ve turned night rides into glowing experiences. We’re most proud of building a movement that inspires communities to ride together. What sets us apart? Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
