Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarette Allyn
Hi Margarette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Harlem and had a love for dance and performing; after unexpected early childhood trauma- I used the stage as a way of therapy. I eventually lost that to the streets and ended up on NYPD, where I eventually went through alcohol addiction and found myself through a series of miracles, which led me to be a speaker and return to the stage today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest obstacle was self-doubt in seeking love and approval outside of me and from other people the streets and through substance abuse.
I also had resentment and lost a lot of faith in believing in myself and my potential to reconnect to my inner child and start over.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I finished a 20 year career with NYPD and published my first memoir last year; Running From Yesterday- A True Story Of Hope Courage and Love.
I produced a book launch dance performance for Running from Yesterday and danced along side my adult dancers from Tampa City Ballet.
I continue to inspire people through inspirational speaking and engaging in acting singing and stage performing.
What sets me apart from others is my continuous gratitude for knowing where choices can take me and I truly shouldn’t be here- my desire to be a solution in the world through creative art.
What matters most to you? Why?
Spreading positive energy to those around me; giving adults the opportunity to perform and sharing my story so others can realize that we truly have the power to re create amazing lives if we trust ourselves and not hold on to negativity.
