Rising Stars: Meet Marc Stallion of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Stallion.

Hi Marc, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hmm… I’ve lived an eventful, yet hyper focus life the past 29 years. So, I’ll just start by walking you through my educational and career paths.

My journey began in high school when I combined my love for spoken word poetry and candid photography. Collaborating with friends in the DSLR space (Which I knew nothing about), we created experimental short films that allowed me to discover my natural talent for acting and directing.

Pursuing my passion, I moved to Los Angeles to earn my BFA in Acting from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. During my time there, I honed my directing skills by creating and directing my own stage productions, which led to collaborations with artists throughout the city.

After completing my MFA in Contemporary Media at Antioch University, focusing on poetry and screenwriting, I deepened my understanding of effective storytelling. Driven by a passion for education, I pursued a post-masters in pedagogy and ventured to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to establish my non-profit, I GOT NEXT.

Through I GOT NEXT, we empower underprivileged families and children through education and personal development. Over time, it evolved into a production company that supports artists and creates Mindful-Media. In Haiti, I wrote and directed my first feature film.

Returning to California in 2023 at only 27yrs old, I joined AMDA College as an instructor of content creation while continuing my filmmaking endeavors. My recent projects include a series pilot examining mental health in the Black community and a feature film inspired on the life of Isaac Bailey (The uncle of Chloe and Halle Bailey).

Currently, I am the Interim Coordinator for the Content Creation BFA program at AMDA College, an instructor, and a thriving independent filmmaker. Through dedication and passion, I think I have carved a unique path in the world of storytelling and education that doesn’t follow any traditional paths.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Growing up as a low-income African American child with undiagnosed learning disorders made it difficult to fully explore my potential. My single mother worked tirelessly to provide for me and my siblings, but we often faced obstacles like homelessness and lack of access to necessities, including food and counseling.

Leaving home for college, I became determined to use my creativity to create opportunities for myself and others facing similar challenges. While this path has been consistent and purposeful, it has also been marked by loneliness and a sense of disconnection from those who cannot relate to the unique struggles I’ve faced or the current path that I am on. No one knows how hard it really is to become a respected filmmaker. Despite these challenges, I remain driven by my mission to serve others and cultivate a sense of purpose through my work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a multi-faceted professional. Filmmaker, professor, program coordinator, screenwriter, and CBT coach, blending my expertise to empower others in education, mentorship, and personal development. My unique approach incorporates CBT techniques into teaching and filmmaking, and I am proud of my work with underprivileged communities through my non-profit, I GOT NEXT. What sets me apart is my unwavering dedication to empowering those around me through a supportive, collaborative environment. I don’t do a thing unless it’s rooted in service.

One of my secret identities hides in Music. I’m a recording artist, but this is for me. I make music that makes me feel good.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Obviously God is at the forefront for me. After that…my wife has been a constant presence in my journey, acting as my business partner, cheerleader, fan, and critic. She’s been unwavering in her belief in me, allowing me to grow and evolve in whatever way I need.

I’m also so grateful for my best friend Wiz, a rising interior designer who started as my assistant in Haiti and grew into a leader alongside me. Over the past four years, his talents and our shared dreams have been essential to my progress.

Lastly, I must mention Kevin Ramsey, my mentor who became like a father to me. His wisdom, critique, and challenges have been instrumental in my growth, and I am forever thankful for his presence in my life and faith in my endeavors.
