Rising Stars: Meet Mad Watson of Las Vegas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mad Watson

Hi Mad, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Mad Watson, a mixed-media artist based in Las Vegas, Nevada. From a young age, I was drawn to the arts—singing, dancing, painting, and theatre. As a lover of all things artistic, I continued to pursue my passion, eventually teaching art lessons to children and serving as a children’s theatre director for many years. I wanted to show my students that they could follow their dreams, not just by telling them, but by living it myself.

In 2020, I graduated from the Milan Art Institute, where I discovered my true artistic voice. My practice has two distinct sides. The first is my original mixed-media paintings, which center around themes of divine femininity and the metaphors between women and nature. I create dreamy, double-exposed portraits of women, blending them with lush landscapes. My work combines thick textures, acrylics, oil paints, florals, and collaged fragments of sheet music—which have personal significance, as they reflect music I grew up enjoying. These layers symbolize the complexity of the feminine spirit and our deep connection to the natural world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest challenges has been building my own self-confidence and trusting myself enough to fully commit to my art. Like many creatives, I had internalized the myth of the ‘starving artist’—this idea that pursuing art wasn’t a sustainable career. Overcoming that meant shifting my mindset and allowing myself to believe that my work had value, both emotionally and financially.

A major turning point was attending the Milan Art Institute, where I not only refined my skills but also learned about the business side of being an artist. That education helped me replace fear with strategy. I also looked at my own students—who I had always encouraged to chase their dreams—and realized I needed to take my own advice.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my loving family and my spouse, who has always believed in me and my dreams, even in moments when I doubted myself. Their encouragement gave me the strength to put myself out there—selling my work at fairs, galleries, and artisan markets, and connecting with people through my live aura paintings. Seeing how deeply my art resonated with others helped reinforce my belief that being an artist is not just possible—it’s my purpose. Now, I aim to help others dissolve that myth too, by showing that art can be both meaningful and sustainable

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is all about connection, intuition, and emotion. My practice has two distinct yet deeply connected sides.

On one hand, I create original mixed-media paintings that celebrate divine femininity and the metaphors between women and nature. My style blends dreamy, double-exposed portraits with lush landscapes, incorporating rich textures, acrylics, oils, florals, and collaged sheet music. Each piece reflects the complexity of the feminine spirit and our deep connection to the natural world.

The other side of my practice is live aura painting, where I intuitively connect with a person’s energy and create a unique watercolor abstract painting of their aura. This experience is deeply personal for my clients, helping them feel seen, loved, and celebrated in a way that is completely unique to them. It’s a moment of self-reflection, empowerment, and artistic transformation all in one.

What sets me apart is my ability to merge intuition with art. Whether through my mixed-media work or aura paintings, I aim to capture something beyond the physical—something felt, something deeply personal. My background in music, theatre, and the performing arts also influences how I infuse emotion into my pieces.

One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing how my work impacts people. Whether it’s someone moved to tears by an aura painting that reflects their energy in a way they’ve never seen before or a collector who finds personal meaning in one of my mixed-media pieces, those connections remind me why I do this.

Ultimately, my goal is to help people feel seen and loved, celebrating hope and beauty through my art. I want my work to be a reminder that we are all deeply connected, worthy, and full of light.
