Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Chava.
Hi DJ Chava, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started teaching myself how to DJ almost nine years ago, when I was 19, in my parents’ basement in Chicago. That passion quickly turned into real experience as I began playing at local community events and bars. I’ve always loved music so much that I felt the need to explore every genre to find what truly felt like me.
It wasn’t until I began blending my favorite Latin songs into my sets that everything started to click. Around that same time, artists like J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Becky G, and El Alfa were starting to rise, and I realized that our culture wasn’t just being heard—it was becoming a movement. Being part of that shift has been incredibly inspiring. It’s pushed me to grow and evolve not only as an artist, but also as someone deeply rooted in community and identity. I’ve also found a way to infuse elements of Chicago House into my sound, creating something that feels both personal and powerful.
That evolution eventually led me to launch Fresa, a global house party rooted in Latin culture, rhythm, and joy. What started as a local event has grown into a platform that brings people together through music, movement, and shared experience.
I’m grateful for where this journey has taken me so far—and even more excited for where it’s headed next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been far from a smooth road. I’ve faced my share of struggles in this industry—from navigating a rocky transition while performing, to dealing with technical difficulties, to constantly having to prove myself even more as a Latina woman. Still, I try not to dwell on the setbacks. I focus on finding solutions and remind myself not to be too hard when things go wrong. Mistakes and tough moments are part of the process—they shape us and help us grow. I’m here to make a difference in this industry, and I trust that my timing and my journey are uniquely mine for a reason.

I’m a multidisciplinary creative working across DJing, music production, event curation, graphic design, and creative direction in beauty and fashion. I specialize in crafting immersive, culturally driven experiences through sound, visuals, and storytelling. What sets me apart is my deep passion for music, art, and style—and my dedication to creating work that connects and resonates.

I grew up playing basketball, surf whenever I can and take ballet classes, I love to stay active!
