Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenka Padysakova.
Hi Lenka, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Costume and Fashion designer born in Slovakia. I have been through a few countries before I came to Los Angeles/Marina del Rey, where I currently live. First adventure after my fashion design school in Slovakia was Berlin. There I worked as a fashion designer for a Canadian/German fur and leather luxury brand called Karl Kratochwil. From Berlin, I went to London where I got my BA degree at THE UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS LONDON/London College of Fashion. I worked at The Royal Opera House, The Young Vic Theatre just to name a few. I was also doing a work placement at Viviene Westwood studio as part of my studies.
While in London, I made a one-year detour to Rome where I worked on costumes for cabaret and burlesque shows at amazing MICCA CLUB. After return back to London, I was designing and making lots of custom-made costumes for The Costume Studio. And from there, I was slowly transforming into designing costumes for movies.
After 11 years in London, I made my move to a place that I was dreaming about- Los Angeles. Hollywood was always the highlight of Costume Designing for me. And I made it there. I worked on productions like The Ritual Killer, The Lost City, Physical tv show seasons 2 and 3, A Futile and Stupid Gesture, Honey Boy, Stargirl, and Venom…
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a European, the biggest struggle was visa. But I am proud to say that I have a green card that took years to get but I got it thanks to my hard work and good credits.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
All my life I was a creative person and created outfits for my Barbie dolls to start with and since I was 12 years old, I learned how to sew clothes for myself. Impeccable, classy and original are the words that best describe my style/ my fashion designs. To be elegant is so natural to me and I would say that’s what sets me apart from others. I always make a new outfit for any events that I attend or places I visit.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Perseverance, curiosity, good communication skills and being a good listener.
