Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylana
Hi Kylana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Life has a way of surprising you. You may think you have it all figured out then BOOM. You’re back to square one. This was me after leaving law school to pursue entrepreneurship. Up until that point, since a very young age, the only “light” at the end of the tunnel was being an attorney. Following in my older sisters footsteps. “You’d be a great lawyer!” “You have all the skills for it!”. As lovely and confidence-bearing as these words were, they never truly allowed me to envision a different future for myself.
It wasn’t until a few months into law school that I realized I was utterly miserable. I could feel how my actions were defying the spirit dwelling within that was begging for another outlet. So, after months of hesitation and with great worry, I sent in my letter of withdrawal. Then…it began.
Almost immediately things began to shift. I was in the process of opening my own branch of our family day care, my first business venture. During this time I also worked toward my notary license as a side hustle, and fast forward one year, I opened my first notary firm. Things were better, but still I could feel something tugging at my soul.
My interactions in life were based greatly on the premise of serving. I loved helping people, in any way I possibly could. Motivating, inspiring, offering happy mediums to troubling issues. I had things to say that I felt people really needed to hear. Luckily during this time I met a like-minded girl who understood my story like it was hers. We both knew the world needed change and we were going to be at its service.
Thus, Unfiltered by Colie and Kylana was born! A podcast centered around bringing men and women together, upholding traditional values and rejecting mainstream ideologies.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Each level in life brings with it its unique struggles. The first thing I had to teach myself was to overcome the struggle of welcoming these hardships, of welcoming any change. I firmly believe this is one of the most crucial keys to success: you must teach yourself to welcome trials and tribulations for they only benefit you…whether they are blessings or lessons.
For me, a lot of these challenges were internal. It was constant war with the insecure and fearful parts of myself that cloaked me with thoughts such as “You’re not good enough”, “you’re going to fail”, “no one cares what you have to say”. Your own inner dialogue often hurts you more than the words of strangers.
Another struggle was assuming that everyone knew what they were doing and had it all figured out. Definitely not true. We’re all learning and evolving no matter what position of authority we hold in our professions.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
If you asked anyone who really knows me, they would probably tell you I’m always looking for the next problem to solve, and find great joy and fulfillment in doing so, especially when it relates to relationships or family dynamics. This is why I’m so excited and proud to introduce Unfiltered, because I know how many people would benefit tremendously from our program.
We hold insightful conversations which are never focused on being “politically correct”, rather on the raw human analysis we form given the subject matter, a trait nearly lost in all forms of journalistic media content.
We offer open-dialogue therapy to couples or friends who would like to voice their interpersonal concerns and have their perspectives broadened. All that’s required is an open mind and a genuine want for change.
We are one of the very few platforms that speak up for men and the crisis surrounding their mental health. It’s more than just a podcast.
How do you define success?
Although the road to success is not smooth, the challenges are still rewarding. You learn a lot about yourself. You learn to be patient, to have faith, to really trust yourself and your abilities to alchemize your vision. Is this not success then? We can place an X dollar amount to achieve and once accomplished, we label that as “success”.
I think real success can be discovered long before reaching the end goal “successfully”. It is discovered during the journey, in even subtle ways. Using one example, discipline being a key characteristic of success can show us this. If I discipline myself to work harder, stay consistent, and not lose focus — that is the exact force that exalts me to my goal. That alone is one of the keys.
