Rising Stars: Meet Koreos of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koreos.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Koreos started back in December of 2014 as a KPOP cover dance team based out of UCLA. Our team was founded by Ellen Min and Kimberly Chyu. Throughout the last 10 years, our team has constantly been evolving in order to produce high quality work. Koreos comprises of members from various backgrounds, all with a common passion for KPOP dancing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been smooth. Like any team, some of our biggest challenges include figuring out new ways to innovate our process, maintaining and improving the quality of our work, training members on various skills like dance and production, building out our leadership roles, as well as developing a cohesive team culture that improves with each era. With each new season, we have a new team with different personalities. Part of the process is creating a space where all of our dancers can work cohesively in a productive environment.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a K-Pop cover dance team whose members cover the dance routines of various k-pop idol groups and artists. We learn the choreography, replicate the performance outfits, and enact our own system of production where we schedule, film, edit, and publish our content online. Our team is well-known in the k-pop cover dance community for having produced our own content for the last 10 years. We are proud to not only have continued producing content for this long, but also maintaining a team culture that continues to draw in more members each year. We also pride ourselves in having a robust system of process improvements and a strong internal culture of feedback and transparency. This allows the team cohesion to grow each year and facilitates a healthy space for our dancers to grow.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Our team does our best to network within and facilitate a healthy space in our community. This involves going out to k-pop-related events and being a collaborative and welcoming presence in any space we’re involved in. We try to participate in as many community events to keep our name out there and maintain a positive reputation in our community.
