Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamile Horton.
Hi Kamile, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Kami, born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I’ve been doing nails since 2019. It all started as a hobby on the side of my corporate job at REVOLT TV. Initially, I began doing my own nails, which led to doing a couple of friends, and then friends of friends. I was completely self taught, but I was really into nail art and shaping, which really made my work stand out! I had converted my living room into a nail studio, and both my clientele and demand was steadily growing.
After about four months of barely sleeping and juggling both, I had to make a choice. After researching the market and nail industry, I decided to pursue my passion for nails and go full time. My mom encouraged me to quit my job summer of 2019 and enroll in beauty college. That was the best decision I could have made for myself. Even though the pandemic made for a rough start as a young entrepreneur, I had visualized how far I could take my nail career and stayed persistent. As soon as I got my license in March 2020, I began working at a salon called Oasis in Inglewood. I gained so many new clients from referrals and marketing my skills on Instagram that it was hard to take a day off. I’ve been fortunate to have perfected my craft, maintain loyal clients, and grow my business each year.
Today, I have my own salon suite in Westchester, I’ve worked with celebrities, taught courses to other beginner nail techs, sold my own products, and I’m constantly pushing myself to be the best at what I do.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve had some minor uphill battles, but I’m the optimistic type. I don’t like to dwell on set backs, instead use them to learn a lesson and propel forward.
The biggest challenge in starting a service-based business is gaining and maintaining clientele. I made it my #1 priority to make sure to provide service that I could appreciate if I were a paying client, and that has helped me keep even my very first clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in nail art. From the designs to the shape, I’m known for making sure my clients are in love with their new set of nails. I pour a lot of passion into my work and into my clients and that’s because I know that top quality nail services are hard to come by where I come from.
I don’t want to just do great nails, but to make women feel their best. Every girl deserves to relax and unwind, enjoy a little pampering, have girl talk, and leave with a fly set of nails. Getting a set by me makes people’s day, or birthday, or anniversary etc. and that’s what’s most important to me.
What makes you happy?
Being able to hand paint intricate designs and create one of a kind wearable artwork for my clients always makes my heart full.
