Rising Stars: Meet Justen Best

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justen Best.

Hi Justen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from Clinton, NC and recently moved to North Hollywood. I am a Renaissance man! I make music, model, podcaster and have done some acting on shows such as “We The People with Judge Lauren Lake”. I am also a behavioral therapist and have been for five years. My main focus is music and I have done about seven shows since moving here. I mix, record, master, and produce all my own music! I am known for my lyricism, amazing beats, and style. I am known for being a basketball player back at home and I played college basketball D1 and D3 at Tennessee Temple University and Guilford College. Winning a conference championship at Guilford College. Before moving here, I coached high school basketball at Carrboro High School. I starting putting music out in 2018 and have about 8 albums on all streaming platforms. I have been making a little noise since touching many different stages around Los Angeles! I decided to move here and take a leap!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was in a car accident in 2013, my first year at Tennessee Temple University. I survived the car flipping multiple times in college. I came out with a broken neck and torn ACL ending my basketball season that year. I had a neck brace on all summer and was recording music while I was home. I worked my way back and was playing the next year. The same year I came back, we got news that my school was merging with another. The whole school full of athletes, had to find a new home ASAP. I found mine at Guilford College where I battled many challenges but still was blessed with a conference championship.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been a behavioral therapist for five years. I have worked in client’s homes and at different facilities. I plan to continue on and find my way into music therapy. I use my podcast platform to help other creatives with ways to keep their mental health in check while also discussing things I have found to help me navigate my way through music and life as an artist. I have a podcast called “Cancel this! Podcast” and about to start my own segment on the “Just Levina” network in June. I record, mix, and master all my own music and I do it in my home. I’m known as one of the only artists to actually rap and not just perform over my vocals.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have many supporters and people that have helped me along my journey. Would have to definitely say my podcast host Kev-O who is also a well-known artist in his own right and taught me a lot about recording music. My mom with my basketball career, we traveled all around the world and she was right there. My whole family which raised me to be the man I am today. Also with them supporting my big dreams. Jasmine Stanley is a well-known dancer, scientist, and physical therapist. She has helped me get adjusted and has supported every show I’ve had.
