Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada.
Hi Jada, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Inglewood California and have been surrounded by artists all my life. My older brother inspired me to start my journey as an actor which began at Santa Monica College, continued at Howard University where I was apart of the first graduating class of the Chadwick A. Boseman college of Fine Arts where I earned my BFA. My journey has now brought me across the pond to London England to obtain my MFA. I plan to have a successful career as a performer and pass my knowledge on as an educator and instructor.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
“Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair” Langston Hughes. I’ve definitely faced trials and tribulations but I always persevere. I’ve dealt with homelessness, depression and anxiety all through my college years but no matter what I push through. I know that my journey is bigger than myself and God has instilled strength and courage within me. I also thank my mom for her unwavering support and selflessness. Without her I wouldn’t be who or where I am.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to think of myself as an artist in every form. I grew up drawing pictures then painting. Once I got to SMC I dabbled in sculpture and photography and had my first acting class which I loved. That lead me to pursing the art full time and essentially earning my degree. Additionally I’ve been a tattoo artist for about 7 years. I’m most proud of graduating because anyone that has gone to an HBCU knows how stressful it can be to finish, especially if you were a transfer like I was. I think what sets me apart is my honesty as well as my dedication. I have a strong work ethic and whatever I plan, will come to fruition.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe having moral integrity is super important to my success. You can’t be willing to sacrifice who you are for a fleeting moment because then you will eventually lose yourself.
