Rising Stars: Meet Jack Vu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Vu.

Jack Vu

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started photography and videography at the age of 18 in the world of martial arts tricking. During this time, I was in college and was not sure what I wanted to do. At the age of 21, I felt like I was wasting my time in school and made a leap of faith by dropping out of college and pursuing a path many are scared of. I started working freelance in the film industry, where I honed my skills in all departments of the field. While working in the film industry, I would find myself creating content for weddings, commercials, music videos, and festivals/nightlife. I fell in love with the fast-paced work in festivals and the nightlife, which is my main focus currently. My work is very diverse, and so is my journey as an artist, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road of a freelancing artist has not been a smooth one. Not knowing when your next gig will be can be very stressful. Sending out emails and applications for jobs and never even getting a reply back can be really defeating. There are times when you have many gigs to do and times when you do not. At times, I would question my decision to pursue this journey of photography and videography. I have struggled a lot with the ups and downs, but you start to learn how to deal with those emotions, especially the negative ones, like the ones that tell you that you can’t do it. I’ve had to defend my choices and deal with uncertainty about where I’m headed. But through it all, I went with my gut that following my passion would lead me to where I wanted to be. Now, having experienced what I have gone through, it has made me a stronger person and grown as an artist.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have worked in the EDM industry for over 10 years and currently on a world tour with a Korean rock band called The Rose. I specialize in being a hybrid shooter. I have my own look and style of editing that elevate the videos and photos with a certain feel. I am most proud of the journey I have been through and showing my family, whom didn’t believe in my decision of joining this field, the work I have created. What sets me apart from others is that I am able to create whatever is thrown at me and strive to keep learning.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My happiness because being able to do what you love every day speaks volumes.
