Rising Stars: Meet Jack Crow Buckley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Crow Buckley.

Hi Jack Crow, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Before becoming a floral designer, I was working in production as a set dresser and PA for various stop motion projects my favorite movie is Fantastic Mr Fox by Wes Anderson which inspired me to join that field my dad was an artist and worked in film and stop motion so I wanted to see if this path worked for me but I realized it wasn’t making me happy, I wanted to be more creative and also bring nature back into my life again, I’ve always believed in a very hippie-like attitude of “trusting the universe” and so I quit my job and did exactly that. I stopped working in production after years of being in that industry and began to follow a more creative outlet.

It was taking this huge risk led me to something I truly love. I think life should be full of things that scare you, and make you uncomfortable. Taking risks is what might lead you to something that changes your life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started I didn’t know how to turn what I was doing creatively into a profitable endeavor, Following a passion in my experience is something that has always been very tumultuous in the beginning. But ultimately continuing doing what you love and learning from my mistakes / Losses I found the Balance, To have the courage to take that risk and Jump into the dark was my biggest obstacle, to start with nothing and turn it into something!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Botanical artist, traditional flower arrangements are something that have never spoken to me personally, I’d like to think being a young individual in my field, I can bring a more contemporary, modern feel to challenge what has always been the normal design style of floral arranging, I am on a long journey to become certified in the Japanese traditional art of flower arranging Ikebana, specifically (Sogetsu) started by the great Sofu Teshigahara my favorite artist of all time, my goal is to provoke a child-like, whimsical feeling something to take you out of your reality, I am really proud of my installation work and collaborating with such amazing and talented artists in my field, and to show the world that flowers represent all the color and beauty that is this life.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To be honest, in my life I have always thought of things in the future like what will this bring to me, How will it serve me? When I realized that the greatest thing I possess is the Journey itself so be present within each day what I’m doing is what makes every experience so fulfilling, to be very cliche just to take it one day at a time.
