Rising Stars: Meet Ethan Prins of Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Prins.

Hi Ethan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up playing soccer. My ability to play eventually took me to college. After an injury, a surgery, and some alone time…I realized I wasn’t good at it because I wanted to be…I was good at it because it was the only thing I knew how to do! I quit. I bought a sewing machine. I bought a pattern drafting book…and I bought a few tools and a dress form. I taught myself how to make clothing, and I decided to try college again…this time with more control and proper fervency. I recently graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design, and I am now a knitwear designer for FRAME. I am also slowly working to develop my own label.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Going to college again was an insecurity. In my mind I failed the first time. At first I felt older and isolated and different than others who had their life together. Now I feel forgiveness and love. I talk better about myself and I am excited for me…I’m a designer! I am blessed I have the confidence to follow my dream, and I am happy I have the maturity to confront time with a healthy conversation.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a fashion designer. I work in womenswear. Professionally, I design knitwear, which is new for me. Think ribbed dresses or cashmere sweaters or even crocheted cardigans.

Personally, I am pursuing my own label. I just allowed myself to have this dream, so I have nothing to share other than my fervency for the future. Designs will span mens and womenswear and will include both knits and wovens.

What am I known for!?!?!?!? Nobody knows me. I am just a silly boy!!! Hopefully people will come to know my clothes one day. They will be well made and lovely to touch, and will always have a sense of play.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am beyond lucky to have a support system, and I am beyond lucky to spend everyday chasing a dream. Luck is ever present in my life and I recognize that.
