Rising Stars: Meet Erika Moran Jovel of San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Moran Jovel.

Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I am Erika, and I am the creator of Luna’s Creations, established in 2022. This company started out of necessity. I found myself in need of a female hygiene product (Yoni) that was made for sensitive skin, and I couldn’t find one. Even though store-bought products state they are for sensitive skin, that’s not always the case. Started making some batches of soap for my friends and family to try. They love it, and then came the name for my company; it was a no-brainer. It had to be named after my guardian angel, my daughter Victoria Luna. Having to deal with grief is not easy; it doesn’t matter how many years have gone by. Making my products has definitely been a huge part of my mental health. I relax when I’m making products. Luna’s Creations is more than just a business to me; it’s a mission driven by both personal passion and a desire to make a significant impact. I went from making 5 products to over 25 products. Someone asked me how many more products I was going to make. My response was, I’m going to build an empire. Some of the products I make, the ingredients come from my garden, like my Rosemary and Hibiscus Hair Re-Growth Products (includes shampoo, conditioner, spray, and hair masks). I have attended events from Santa Barbara all the way down to San Diego. I would love to help as many people as possible with my organic, all-natural, homegrown products (Hygiene Yoni, Hair Regrowth, and Skin Care). I feel like I have come a long way with Luna’s Creations. I have a steady client base. Some of my products are also available through Amazon Handmade. I love doing the pop-ups and festivals. Meeting people I love to chat with is always nice. My plan is to leave my little piece of grain wherever I go—meaning, making a lasting impression and building a brand that truly serves a vital need.” My goal is to fill a crucial gap in the market by providing organic, sensitive-skin alternatives that are often overlooked.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s also difficult to sell hygiene products; some people don’t believe in using any kind of soap. But when you have a problem with odor, you have a different opinion about hygiene. I have met many Lovelees that have had issues in the past, and when they come across my products, they tell me, “I have been looking for these types of products.” Coming from a Hispanic culture you were always taught to never wash with any kind of soap with fragrance but i have come across many different cultures that believe the same, however after talking to them they often try it and love it. Love getting the reviews. As far as the business, I guess you could say it’s been smooth so far. I do struggle with making content and reaching more people. I am a one-person company, like many other small businesses. Advertising has been a struggle for me. But I’m sure, like everything else, I will learn as I go.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a stay-at-home mom. I have 4 children. One of them is Luna, our guardian angel. Two of them are on the autistic spectrum. I stopped working to care for my children. I don’t regret that decision ever. I was a little bit lost. Not knowing what to do when my kids went to school full-time. It was my husband (Luis) that encouraged me to start my own business. He, along with my parents and family, has encouraged me to start the business. So for a few months I thought long and hard about what I would like to do. I want to make a difference in the world. I want to help people with my products. If my daughter lived, I would want her to make a difference in this world. So I’m doing it with her name as my business name. I’m doing it in her honor. One day everyone will know about Luna’s Creations. So my motto with this company is “I want to change the world one person at a time. I can, and I will. Watch me!!

What’s next?
Create new products and revamp existing products. Attend more events and festivals. Get my products in the hands of people in need of sensitive skin products like the ones I make.

Next Events:
I have a few 2-day events/festivals.
July—Camarillo with Camarillo Old Town Association,
August—Santa Barbara with Mujeres Makers Market,
September—Downtown LA with Revolution Festival Tour 2025.
I have always tried to support small businesses. If I purchase anything, I post it on my business and personal pages. I also have a page for anyone to find pop-ups in Southern California. It’s called @wherearethepopupsat. It’s a way for small businesses or customers to find new pop-ups.
