Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Lane and Derrick Fazendin.
Hi Eric and Derrick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Eric Lane speaking: The idea of Mobile Moguls stems from my (Co-Founder – Eric Lane) fascination with the impact beauty industry professionals has on society. Growing up in Los Angeles, I noticed how essential barbers, hairstylists, and nail technicians were to their clients. These essential workers provided their clientele with not only great service, but they also boosted their confidence and re-energized them as they went out into their everyday lives.
Though they played such a huge role in people’s daily lives, I saw many beauty industry professionals not maximizing their income potential and there were minimal tools that gave them a chance to expand on their business model and clientele. Every barber or hairstylist I have known has had a desire to purchase a mobile barbershop but due to high cost that idea rarely comes to fruition. This is where the idea of Mobile Moguls was born. Initially, creating Mobile Moguls was my way of providing beauty professionals a way to rent a mobile barbershop at an affordable rate. Since its inception, we have expanded to more than just a customized van rental service. In addition to our fleet of vehicles, Mobile Moguls has grown into a platform that identifies ways to provide additional resources exclusively to individuals and businesses that provide mobile services.
A couple of years later, I shared this idea with my longtime friend and former colleague Derrick Fazendin (Mobile Moguls Co-Founder) and he was blown away with the potential of this concept.
Derrick Fazendin speaking: Mobile Moguls is special because it’s a two-pronged approach. When Eric shared this idea with me, I knew this was something I had to be a part of. One, you’re giving incredibly talented people a chance to expand their reach and give them the tools to succeed. But secondly, the concept of “mobile services” in general is something that is only growing in popularity. Convenience is everything, especially in the service industry, so whether it’s a pet groomer coming to your home to wash your dog, someone showing up to wash your car or someone now pulling up in their own mobile salon/barbershop to do your hair, people are going to pay a premium for that. We didn’t reinvent the wheel with Mobile Moguls. We took a concept that’s already been proven to work in other industries and applied it to the beauty industry. In that regard, I had all the confidence in the world that we could make this successful. The proof of concept is there. For us, it just came down to executing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting people to buy into the concept of Mobile Moguls has not been difficult. There hasn’t been many people that we have come in contact with that didn’t understand or see a need for Mobile Moguls. Mobile salons exist, but Mobile Moguls has been first to market and it requires entrepreneurs and businesses to make adjustments that will allow them to take advantage of the benefits of our resources. We have been fortunate enough to have Mobile Mogul members join our team who believe in our mission and they are working right now to show entrepreneurs across the country how meaningful Mobile Moguls can be for all mobile services. If 2020 has taught us anything, it takes doing something differently to be successful and this global pandemic is forcing us all to figure out ways to be creative and flexible within our business models.
