Rising Stars: Meet Elizabeth Cabello

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Cabello.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I was totally that kid who’d spend what felt like hours sitting in front of our prehistoric desktop, making digital art with just a cursor. I had no idea then but Windows Paint was giving eight years old me a lot of the skill set I use today in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Disposable cameras were also such a fun part of my childhood. I remember taking them to field trips and really finding any excuse to get my hands on one. By middle school, it was only natural that an Applied Tech program in my public school would be where I landed. I was so lucky to have been introduced to Photoshop and iMovie there. I was instantly drawn. I also ended up joining the yearbook committee around that time. I got to roam the school and all the fun events with a pretty heavy DSLR. I still remember this one shot I took at a football game that made me feel like a true professional. I felt like it was something out of a sports magazine. I FELT. I’m sure I’d probably laugh if I got to look at it now. In high school, I went for digital art and put all the photography stuff on the back burner. My second year, I got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and everything else was a blur. I did some college but dropped out due to the physical and mental health struggles I was facing. I didn’t see much for my future as one can imagine. I took on stress-free jobs, mostly childcare/school settings for a few years before my brother gave me a camera. I ended up just messing around with it not thinking much. As time went on, I did some more photoshoots for friends and family, I edited and helped film YouTube videos for my brother. And here we are now, healthy thanks to Jesus and enjoying this photography + film journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not, physical illness, mental health issues and everything else that life comes with made it feel difficult to stay motivated and creative. That also all makes it difficult. Forgot to mention financially, photography is an expensive hobby/career. But I’m grateful to God for all of it. Looking back now, I know that even those experiences have influenced my photography for the better.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer + digital creator. I specialize in portrait and lifestyle photography. I’m most proud of my journey here and the impact some of my clients have shared I’ve had in their lives through my art. I’ve received some really touching feedback that has made me full-on cry. From clients who really don’t even know my story to friends whose businesses are starting up.

What sets me apart? I think my purpose sets me apart from others. I have a God-given love for humans and am wired to create. I truly desire that it shows in all of my work.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was an outgoing, creative kid. Absolutely loved drawing, painting, and crafts. Loved the arts.
