Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Tilk.
Hi Drew, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We started with a whiteboard and a vision. During the pandemic, my partner Corbin and I found ourselves needing to put our passions to good use. Corbin had been toying with the idea of starting a canned cocktail company. I helped push him into the deep end. From there, we spent months formulating, ideating, and creating a brand. Although we’re just getting started, we feel that we’ve learned so much along the way.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy path. There we plenty of times we almost called it quits. We had disagreements about the vision of the company, we had issues with the supply chain, and we found it nearly impossible to find vendors that were willing to entertain the idea of an MVP run. We knew that if we were to stop, we’d be wasting our hard work and letting our dreams pass us by.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a marketer at heart. I’m most proud of my ability to find common ground between the creative part of my brain and the analytical one. I love solving complex problems and am motivated by being challenged. My passion for creativity started with photography and has flourished over the years.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I always knew I wanted something more than the status quo. I could never wrap my head around sitting behind a desk and waiting until I retired. I was a pretty average student, but I worked hard. I struggled the most in math. At that time, I felt like if I couldn’t get amazing grades, I would never excel in life. It took me decades for me to figure out that school wasn’t everything.
My best friends were all obsessed with sports. Because of that, I always felt a little excluded or different. I played roller hockey competitively my entire childhood. I eventually lost interest when I realized I wasn’t going to be doing it for the rest of my life. During my freshman year of college, I ended up picking up a camera. Photography really changed my view of the world. I started looking at things differently and really growing.
