Rising Stars: Meet Dahyna Prophete

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dahyna Prophete.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In August 2020, I was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety as well as borderline personality disorder. I was going to therapy and learning about my mind all while studying to be a social worker/therapist. My mental health started to get worse every single day, I felt myself getting worse by the minute even. In July 2021, it became too much for me, for my heart, my brain and my soul. I felt extremely bad about myself. I was being bullied on Twitter. I felt alone. I knew I was depressed and I knew ways to cope, I knew how to “get better”, hell, that’s what I was studying. I just could never bring myself to utilize those tools. I attempted to commit suicide. My bestfriend knew something was up and texted my brother. I lived alone but he had a key to the apartment. My brother and his wife came and found me on my bed. I remember the look on their faces, specially my brother’s. I was rushed to the ER, hospitalized then transferred to a mental health facility. After I got out of the hospital, I started looking for ways to soothe myself, and feel better. My love for candles was always there but I started learning and trying out. I loved it. I started the paperwork for AVA-LIT during the month of September. Around December 2021, I had already made more than 100 candles! In February 2022, I launched my candle business. The business is centered around mental health. I use essential oils all the way from Haiti proven to help with stress and anxiety, I use wooden wicks that give the crackling sound that soothes your soul & also colors that are proven to reduce stress.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been very hard getting exposure and turning that into customers. It’s been hard to keep up with making videos for TikTok, instagram while working a 9-5.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently working with homeless people (that is my day job). I also create content for brands on instagram and I own the business. I would say I’m very proud of where I came from and where I am now. I am still very much depressed and anxious and sometimes it gets really really bad but I am thankful to have such amazing human beings around me that give me a reason to live & my dog Lola as well.

What’s next?
I would love to open my own orphanage and Alzheimer’s home in the future. I also want my own skincare brand because I am so passionate about skincare! I’d love to have enough funds to boost AVA-LIT in the near future so it can get the recognition and love the business deserves.
