Rising Stars: Meet Cynthia Irwin of Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Irwin.

Hi Cynthia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t grow up with a roadmap or a backup plan. I’m a Latina mom, a creative, and a business owner who figured things out one step at a time.

I started my career in permanent makeup over eight years ago, back when cosmetic tattooing wasn’t as popular or understood as it is now. What pulled me in wasn’t just the artistry—it was the way this work helped women feel more confident in their own skin. As a woman and a mom, that mattered to me.

Like a lot of beauty professionals, I started small. I worked long hours, said yes to almost everything, and reinvested every dollar back into my education and my business. I was learning how to do better brows, but I was also learning how to run a business—how to price my services, market myself, show up online, and create an experience clients actually remembered.

Over time, Brow Expressions Permanent Beauty grew into an award-winning studio serving thousands of clients. But the growth didn’t come from talent alone. It came from being adaptable. I leaned into marketing, systems, and eventually technology and AI to work smarter, not harder; because as a mom, time is everything.

As my business grew, other artists started asking how I stayed booked, how I marketed myself, and how I balanced work and family. That’s when mentoring became a natural next step for me. Today, I help beauty professionals, especially brow artists, build businesses that support their lives instead of running them into the ground.

Right now, I’m in a season of expansion, opening a new studio location in Prescott, Arizona, while continuing to grow through education, digital tools, and creative projects that support the next generation of artists.

My story isn’t about overnight success. It’s about showing up, adjusting when things get hard, and building something meaningful while raising a family. I’m still hands-on, still learning, and still evolving, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the hardest parts came when the industry became saturated and much more competitive. Suddenly, being talented wasn’t enough. My artistry was solid and my reputation was strong, but I had to really think about what would set me apart.

What ended up making the biggest difference wasn’t just my work, it was my marketing and my follow-up. I focused on building a strong Google presence, collecting real reviews, and creating systems that didn’t let leads fall through the cracks. Instead of chasing clients, I built a process that continued to follow up with them and stay top of mind. That shift changed everything.

At the same time, one of my biggest personal challenges was balancing motherhood with running a growing business. I wanted to be present for my kids while still making sure my business stayed healthy and stable. That tension is real, and there were moments where it felt like something always needed more of me.

Because of that, I never stopped learning. I stayed curious about marketing trends and looked for smarter ways to grow without being glued to my phone or posting every single day. I knew I couldn’t do it all the traditional way, and honestly, I didn’t want to.

It hasn’t been easy, but those challenges forced me to think differently, build systems that support my life, and grow in a way that’s sustainable for the long term.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a cosmetic tattoo artist and business owner specializing in soft, natural-looking brows, especially nano brows. I’m known for results that enhance a woman’s features without looking overdone; timeless, not trendy.

Through Brow Expressions Permanent Beauty, I’ve built an award-winning studio with a strong reputation and a loyal client base, largely driven by referrals and Google reviews. What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me and the consistency I’ve built over time.

What sets me apart is how I run my business. I focus on smart marketing, strong lead follow-up, and systems that keep my schedule full without burning me out. As a mom, that balance matters. I’ve built a business that supports my life instead of taking over it, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that’s been most important to my success is adaptability.

This industry changes fast, and life changes even faster, especially when you’re a mom. I’ve never relied on one way of doing things or assumed what worked before would always work. When the market shifted, I adjusted. When my time became more limited, I built smarter systems. When something stopped feeling sustainable, I found another way.

I stay curious, I keep learning, and I’m willing to evolve without losing who I am. That flexibility has allowed me to grow my business, stay relevant, and build something that still works for my life today, not just who I was when I started.
