Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Lee
Hi Claire, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there. Please allow me to introduce myself!
My name is Claire. I’m originally from Seoul, South Korea and have been in LA now for around eight years. I started my career as a Fashion Designer and Stylist in Korea in 2012. I’ve been so lucky in my career to have had the opportunity to work for many well-known K-Pop artists and groups like EXO, Girls Generation and Super Junior.
In 2016, I decided to take a risk and fulfill my dream of living and working in LA as a Fashion Designer, buyer, and stylist since moving here. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with a few Korean American musicians as a Personal Stylist as well. Moving to LA has really been a dream come true and helped me get closer to my love of everything fashion and art.
After sometime in the industry, I felt the desire to bring my skills and expertise to more people beyond celebrities and big companies. And that’s why I started my Personal Color Analysis business in 2021 to help more people better understand and promote their personal style and beautiful image!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest obstacle was overcoming the language barrier and moving to and living in a new country by myself. I took an extremely intense English course for seven months before leaving Korea, which helped me a lot, but had to pick up the rest on my own. Navigating all the administrative challenges of starting a business in a foreign country was very challenging. Luckily, I met a lot of new, good friends that helped me along the way and provided me with great guidance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The thing I take the most pride in is introducing my clients to the scientific theory behind total image branding, specifically personal color and body type analysis. There’s so much nuance in the field of color studies and body types that a lot of my customers are surprised to discover how far it goes to help improve their image. As with anything though, it’s not a one size fits all. I also give my customer a full-analysis of my findings and suggestions based on real-world examples. What are their best colors? What are colors they should absolutely avoid? What accessories help accentuate their body type? These, and many more, are the questions I help my clients answer.
My entire business relies on my ability to accurately evaluate my clients and provide them with detailed information based on my findings so they can look and feel their best. I’ve even started branching into consulting for event-based color themes, like weddings and other celebrations.
This type of approach to image branding is very popular in Korea, and as a native Korean woman. I’m very excited to help grow this type of service in America.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Relationships are everything, especially when running a small business. Not only clients, but your close-friends, family, people you can trust to never leave your side. It’s so important to nurture these relationships throughout life and have a support network. Running a small business can be stressful and it’s more challenging when you’re doing it alone.
I realized this when I moved to America by myself in 2016. I made a strong effort to build meaningful relationships as quickly as I could. So many people have been fundamental to my story and I could never thank them enough for sticking with me, even through the tough times.
