Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Lozano.
Hi Christine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I called Detour magazine from my hometown of El Paso, TX, when I saw a photo of my favorite band, Duran Duran, in their magazine. I asked them if I could work for them. They very nicely said if I was in Los Angeles, they were always looking for interns, so… I drove out here with no job and not knowing anyone in 1994 and then started Interning for Detour Magazine, where I eventually became the Entertainment Editor. Being there for two years, I then left and went to work at the World-Famous Viper Room, where I was the in-house photographer and Day manager (for two years). All of us left when Johnny Depp left in 2004, and then I got a scholarship at the Lee Strasberg School for acting on Santa Monica Blvd. There I did plays such as Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf, Savage in Limbo and others. After Strasberg, I worked in the Mental Health industry for some time, and during that time, I went on to join the cast of General Hospital for Nine years. During the Pandemic, I dived into my Photography and writing. I published a Photography book called The Viper Room 1995-2004 The Photographs and started writing screenplays. I had my first Gallery show in Hollywood, focusing on the Heyday of the Viper Room with rare, never-before-seen photos that can be viewed at Viperroomphotos.com. Last year, my comedy script, Free Bird, won the official selection for Best Script in the Beverly Hills Film Festival. YEA!!! And currently, I’m still writing, and we’re trying to get the movie Free Bird made. 🙂
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
L.A is hard and fickle, but I love her. If you’re an artist, you do what you got to do. If you’re worried about becoming rich and famous then you will become disheartened and give up. As an artist you don’t do it to be famous, you do it because you have to, and no 9-5 job will ever fill that gap. Trust me, I know. I would probably need four sets of hands to count all the 9-5 jobs I’ve been fired from. 🙂
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Gosh, I don’t know that I’m known for anything. I loved acting for sure, but writing and Photography are a whole different journey altogether. I guess maybe I’m known for my photography since I had that gallery show. My writing, I write comedies, has gotten me some high fives along the way. I do know that when I do my table reads that I can get the same actors for all my projects because they enjoy the writing so there may be something there. I’m most proud of my tenacity. I may get down and out, but I NEVER give up. I do what I do because I have to. I love people-watching and creating these characters on the page.
What sets me apart from others? Hmmmm… I’m a nut bag. I don’t know. My winning personality. 🙂
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being happy, not completely content, but staying on that Journey and not looking so much for a destination. Success is also being able to find joy in the little things and taking a chance on yourself.
