Today we’d like to introduce you to Chastidee Davis-Wright
Hi Chastidee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Apple.Wind.Palm.® began as an act of self-love during the COVID-19 pandemic. As someone who takes a lot of pride in my self-care routines, I struggled with the closure of nail salons, hair salons and spas during this time. Our population’s physical (and mental) health took priority — rightfully so! While the aforementioned luxuries were deprioritized, I longed for a space where I could tend to my self-care practices without feeling guilty.
Relying on Caribbean wellness rituals passed on to me over generations, I began infusing oils with natural ingredients to address some of my skin concerns. The first product was our Sweet Orange Cuticle Oil because I began doing my own manicures and pedicures at home. The second product was our Oat Milk Brown Sugar Scrub, which provided relief for my dry inflamed skin, due to heightened stress. And since the products were working well for me, I shared the wealth with loved ones via personalized self-care packages. Utilizing their constructive feedback, I expanded the product line, positioning myself to launch an online store by 2021.
Apple.Wind.Palm.® formulas have been thoughtfully curated and sourced using the same resources accessible to my family from the beautiful islands of Saint Kitts & Nevis. Apple.Wind.Palm.® aims to be an approachable wellness brand for all; amplifying the voices and culture of the Caribbean diaspora is at the forefront.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Less than 6 months post-launch, I paused production of Apple.Wind.Palm.® products to take care of my mom, who was diagnosed with stage-3 breast cancer. I relocated back to New York City to be her primary caregiver and continue to oversee her course of treatment today.
In 2023, I lost my grandfather to Alzheimer’s disease. Four months later, my father took ill and succumbed to liver disease. Eight months after my father died, I lost my Godmother unexpectedly. A month after that, our dog of twelve years took her final breath in my husband’s arms.
It’s fair to admit, grief is weighing on me and it has been a challenge to navigate.
While I managed to revive my brand in December 2024, I wake up each day ready to go to war with my grief. Apple.Wind.Palm.® is like my protective armor, it allows me to keep going.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have an extensive background in public relations, communications and nonprofit community relations. In addition, I am a published writer and wellness advocate.
I’m proud of a couple of things right now: my openness to pivot. For some, there’s a real fear of the unknown. A dark hole of possibilities doesn’t scare me; stagnation and complacency is what haunts my spirit. For this reason, I’m always moving upward and outward.
And lastly, I’m proud of how I am navigating loss. It’s easy to fall victim to heartache and grief, but that’s only half the battle. The real fight is seeing yourself beyond these massive emotions most people allow to define them. I find comfort in knowing I have experienced a love so immense, it is immortal. This is reason enough for me to keep yearning for more, which requires survival.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Community is everything.
